Job Summary

To meet the need of the expanding role of the advisor in the nursing program including acting as a liaison to faculty, referrals to support services, program development, and use of developmental advising.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Advises online and campus based students using advanced advisement skills. Has a detailed knowledge of campus resources and identifies common problems among students and implements preventive measures. Reviews the students comprehension of the advising syllabus and clarifies any misunderstandings. Evaluates files for acceptance into the College of Nursing and Health Innovation and reviews files upon graduation. Identifies and implements processes to improve communications and access for online and campus based students, which includes evaluating policies related to advising and updates the advising syllabus based on changes within the University and the College of Nursing and Health Innovation. Probation Advising- Identifies students with academic and/or psychosocial problems. Has the ability to assess students life factors and individualize each advising session. Evaluates students developmental level and assists with goal setting, decision making, and empowerment. Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree and one (1) year of experience working with college students or adolescents in an advising capacity or five (5) years of experience in a related field or the equivalent experience.


Preferred Qualifications

One to four years experience working with college students or adolescents in an academic counseling capacity.
