Software Developer

Blue Marble Geographics is looking to add a smart, user focused entry level Software Developer to assist and grow our in-house development team by supporting and maintaining cutting-edge GIS software tools. This is an opportunity to work within a dynamic, small team-oriented software company in Maine. Responsibilities will include:

• Assisting Blue Marble customers using our development tools and applications
• Creating and maintaining internal build procedures
• Generating code sample, scripts, and testing units
• Helping cultivate code quality by keeping our version control system organized
• Maintaining and updating a continuous integration pipeline
• Analyzing customer issues and identifying/implementing solutions
• Participating and contributing to our overall software development process
• Learning about the GIS development world and grow with us

The position provides constant opportunities to work with software developers from around the world as they implement our technology. Our customers include Lockheed Martin, Guerilla Games, Chevron, Google, Microsoft, and many other well-known companies. In addition to our customers, you will be working within a team of highly experienced and knowledgeable software professionals who are more than happy to lend a hand.

General Requirements

Required working knowledge of the software development process, along with standard Computer Science data structures and algorithms. We primarily develop in C++, but also use the Microsoft .NET framework languages, and various other modern tools such as Python and Java. Experience (including academic) with at least one of these languages is a must. Additional skills with SDK tools such as Qt, Boost, GDAL, or 3rdParty tools like SVN, GIT, and JIRA, knowledge of Object-oriented design, and development experience with *-ix based environments are appreciated. Some travel may be required.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required. Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics areas preferred, but other technical degrees considered.
