System Maintenance Technician (Linux/UNIX)

Responsibilities

  • Server maintenance is the process of keeping servers working by deploying reviews that preemptively evaluate the status of assigned assets and their interoperability with required resources and functions
  • Work with Facilities to obtain Power and backup Power
  • Work with facilities to connect power cables
  • Work with networking team to obtain Internet cabling and IP addresses
  • Work with networking teams to connect network cables
  • Ensure required monitoring agents are also active on all servers
  • Review Monitoring results for anomalies and performance issues
  • Review Server Event Viewers to check for security, System, and event anomalies
  • Remove temporary files weekly on maintenance, Internet cache files, and unnecessary program files
  • Keep tracking databases up to date
  • Create and distribute maintenance activities weekly to all staff leads
  • Perform as needed Tasks

Qualifications

  • Datacenter and server hardware installation and setup including rack space and power management
  • Linux and UNIX server Maintenance commands such as disk space, directory and file sizes, and scripting
  • Performance and configuration monitoring tools such as BigFix, puppet, SNMP, SolarWinds, Splunk, and ScienceLogic
  • Configuring and monitoring UNIX Server system logs and temporary files for continuous operation.
  • Monitor and validate Linux, Solaris and UNIX OS patch levels
  • Server hardware maintenance, including firmware patching, defective hardware replacement (CPU, memory, drives, mother boards, etc..) with ESD compliance
  • Server validation after any warranty or field engineer work
  • Lights out management such as iDRAC, etc.
  • OS storage technologies such as Linux LVM, Solaris zpools, SuperCluster dataset
  • Server Hardware RAID configuration and maintenance

 

Education:

  • AA or two year  technical school  in  Computer Science, Systems, Business, or related scientific/technical discipline and  3 years’ work experience
  • Four  (4) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education (7 years total)
