Associate Dean, School of Business

California Southern University – Costa Mesa, CA

Member of staff responsible for assisting in the fulfillment of all academic objectives for the School of Business Management as established by the University. Assists the Dean in ensuring that Faculty Mentors are performing to the Universitys standards of quality and integrity. Works closely with Learners and assists in problem resolution. Supervises staff under the direction of the Dean. Focuses on developing, expanding, revising, improving and ensuring the successful operation of the department and collaborates with other departments to better serve Learners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Other duties may be assigned)

  • Provides leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating Learner programs, processes and operations to promote Learner success
  • Ensures the alignment of policies and procedures with the Universitys mission, values, goals and objectives
  • Maintains contact with faculty and department staff to ensure effective delivery of services
  • Participates in the hiring of staff and supervises staff under the direction of the Dean
  • Assists in the hiring and oversight of faculty mentors
  • Oversees the Doctoral Project process from the selection of committee to the facilitation of the Doctoral Project defense
  • Provides support and guidance to DBA Candidates through Doctoral Project Orientations, Doctoral Project Defense Preparation Webinars, and other Doctoral Project Events
  • Reviews fulfillment of degree plan requirements and approves the Learners eligibility to graduate
  • Works closely with the Academic Advising team to counsel Learners regarding personal and academic concerns
  • Reviews and makes decisions about Learner probationary and dismissal actions
  • Evaluates qualifications of Learner applicants to determine eligibility for admission to degree programs
  • Serves on the Academic Committee, CalSouthern Learner Conduct Committee and other committees as appropriate
  • Participates in Academic Program Reviews (APRs) and continuous improvement processes at the school and university levels
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with other university departments to better serve Learners
  • Serves as a university liaison with regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies and other external entities
  • Represents the university at academic trainings and conferences and in the community at large
  • Covers the Deans responsibilities in her/his absence
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the administrative software in order to assist and train staff, mentors, and Learners
  • Performs other assignments on an ad hoc basis as required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises faculty and staff under the direction of the Dean. Manages conflict and issue resolution for Learners in the School of Business Management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A doctoral degree from an accredited institution and more than five years of work-related experience and/or training are required.

Qualities: Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and experience working with diversity issues. Possesses flexibility to problem solve and make informed decisions on matters that impact students. Builds collaborative relationships with faculty and staff to help students achieve educational/career goals. Shows proficiency in establishing short and long-term academic goals. Experience with computer business applications and conferencing software is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governing body regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, learners, accrediting and licensing agencies, and the general public. Effectiveness in human relations and dealing with the human aspects of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision.
