Mechanical Products is a stand-alone business unit with about $600M in annual revenue.

Our global locations include 58 manufacturing and distribution centers in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, Australia, and New Zealand with over 3,600 employees.

We are currently searching for an Automation Engineer to be based out of Harvey, IL. Reporting to the Manufacturing Electrical Manager, this person will be responsible for providing information technology-based solutions for data collection, data analysis, process control and factory automation. This position will develop and spread best practice solution throughout the Harvey plant location. In addition, this position will be responsible for assisting in the development of Manufacturing Electronic Technicians, responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting problems with electrical equipment, wiring and resources in the tube manufacturing operation.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of relevant engineering and leadership experience and education, including extensive automation experience as well as extensive experience with electronics troubleshooting. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system based company is a plus.

Additional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute test plans and test cases with a strong emphasis on using code to solve technical challenges.
  • Appraise test efforts, analyze and communicate results, working closely with team members to automate the execution and verification of reports created by the various products.
  • Improve tools & technologies used by the organization to maintain accurate quality, including writing specialized testing tools for MP&S software platform.
  • Create, execute and troubleshoot automated test scenarios across MP&S systems.
  • Project/capital project management experience (concept, feasibility, cost estimating, justification, implementation, audit).
  • Identify required improvements in the development processes; make contributions to automation tools that address specific needs.
  • Prepare and present process improvement plans and coordinate deployment including training of team members.
  • Support of electrical project execution including controls engineering, robot programming, PLC and HMI programming.
  • Site support of system startup.
  • Ability to successfully execute multiple project responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Participation in the development, construction and installation of custom equipment builds.

Qualifications include:

Extensive PLC / HMI experience required.

Knowledge of A/B and Siemens PLCs strongly preferred.

Knowledge of AC/DC drives, induction heating, welding equipment, flying cut-offs, Servo Drive Systems, 3-phase power systems, automated packaging systems and robotics.

Demonstrated ability to develop solutions for factory automation, data collection, and data analysis using Microsoft Office, JD Edwards, and/or other software solutions.

Highly advanced user of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Access with ability to develop templates and programs.

Ability to develop and manage databases; proven skill in using coding standards and participating in code reviews.

Capability of developing solutions that are user-friendly, stable, secure, and adaptable.

Exceptional ability to work cross-functionally to meet user needs.

Knowledge of controls hardware and software, networks and communications, safety systems, robot programming, and project management.

CAD drafting experience, with emphasis on project documentation. AutoCAD preferred.

Excellent written and communications skills.
