For more than fifty (50) years, Metrocare has provided an array of services available to people with mental and developmental disabilities. In addition to behavioral health services, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, accessible pharmacies, housing and supportive social services. Through the Altshuler Center for Education & Research and our software initiative, XenatiX, we are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County.
The Behavior Intervention Specialist assigned to the Behavior Treatment Services program is a creative and patient individual passionate in supporting individuals ages 15 and up that are dually diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities/Autism and mental illness and/or severe behavior disorders. The BIS serves as an integral team member to the treatment team and is responsible for implementing training focused on reducing the challenging behaviors while increasing socially appropriate behaviors. Training the BIS may implement might include, but is not limited to, social skills, anger management, daily living skills, problem solving, conflict resolution, relaxation skills, pre-vocational skills and healthy relationship skills. Services are provided in the clinic Monday-Friday.
ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Assist consumer in identifying and articulating his/her requests and needs for services and supports.
  • Negotiate and facilitate the array of services and supports needed to address the persons goals and desired outcomes as identified.
  • Provide behavioral intervention services in (facility, in-home/community training and support) to assigned caseload.
  • Responsible for ensuring planned services and supports are implemented and appropriately documented.
  • Connect consumer with appropriate services and supports, as needed
  • Document all meetings and notes pertaining to consumer plans
  • Establish Service Plan, along with team.

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with a variety of individuals, teams and systems.
  • Able to apply working knowledge of MS Office 95/97
  • Record data neatly, coherently, accurately, and objectively.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies and procedures related to the Agency and all stakeholders
  • Creative service implementation processes designed to meet the needs of people served.\
  • Emergency/Crisis Intervention skills

  • QualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelors Degree in Human Service field required. Masters Degree in Human Service field preferred. Minimum of one year experience in services for persons with developmental disabilities required. Bilingual preferred.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Basic math skills required for this position.
  • REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding of Metrocare programs.
  • CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • None required
  • TRAVEL:
  • In-county travel.
  • None-to-Negligible travel outside of the county.
