Billing Specialist

Dialysis Care Center – Homer Glen, IL

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Supports the mission, core values and customer service of Home Dialysis Services & Dialysis Care Center, LLC (HDS/DCC).

Adheres to the HDS/DCC Policies and Procedures and Compliance Program including all state and federal regulatory requirements.

The Billing Specialist is responsible for submitting claims for reimbursement and collecting payments for the services provided. Also prepares bills/invoices/statements for Outside Vendors in order to collect revenue for the company.

PRIMARY DUTIES / ACTIVITIES:

  • Create and send out Institutional, UB04 claims for Dialysis training, treatments and monthly medications
  • Create and send out secondary claims
  • Process Dialysis claims, CPT codes, DX codes, and ICD-10
  • Access billing software systems to prepare for claim submission
  • Working directly with the insurance company and healthcare provider to get claims reprocessed and paid in a timely manner
  • Read Explanation of Benefits and log payment details into excel
  • Posting electronic insurance payments into excel
  • Reviewing, correcting, and rebilling any unpaid and denied claims
  • Reviewing clearing houses such as Connex and Availity
  • Participating in individual & group projects as directed by management
  • Working on Accounts Receivables
  • Answering phone calls
  • Other duties, as assigned

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  • Responsible for supporting the values and customer service standards of HDS/DCC.
  • Accountable for outstanding customer service to all staff, clients and vendors
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication.
  • Initiates action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner.

EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates or bachelors degree preferred
  • Certified Professional Coder is preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting; experience in Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word and Excel a must
  • Good presentation & communication skills
  • Must be productive & resourceful with the ability to meet deadlines

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years medical billing experience is required
  • Experience in clearing houses such as Connex and Availity
  • Must be a self-starter who can work independently yet function in a highly collaborative, fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines effectively
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong data entry, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • High integrity, team player with patient service focus and flexibility

Day to day work includes desk and personal computer work and interaction with prospective and current clients. The position requires travel between assigned facilities and various locations. Travel to scheduled staff meetings may be required.

The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. The work environment is also characteristic of a dialysis center or a patients home and as such the employee may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/ materials.

Must be able to lift 30 pounds as needed.
