Job Description

Title: Business Development Officer

Reports to: Senior Pastor and Board of Directors

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the development and leadership of Shadow Rock United Church of Christs new business development function and help ensure the financial sustainability of the community. In this leadership position the BDO will oversee the business development function, including identifying and developing non-traditional revenue channels, organizational capability leading to revenue opportunities, grants management, and related marketing and communications, as well as identifying, developing and fostering external relationships to determine the feasibility of various revenue sources. The Business Development Officer will also analyze the opportunities of the SR campus, build relationships to grow revenue streams, analyze and execute the strongest opportunities and provide communication to the SR board and staff for approval and support.

Shadow Rock United Church of Christ:

Shadow Rock is a part of the United Church of Christ, or UCC. This mainline Protestant denomination has about 5,000 churches and has traditionally been a leader in social issues and justice works. Responsibilities:

  • Define revenue opportunities and create business plan to implement
  • Ensure new opportunities meet acceptable ROI.
  • Develop, plan and execute business plan with the help of SR staff and board
  • Effectively communicate opportunities to board for approval
  • Develop staff and volunteers to assist with plans and share responsibility for them, including needed initial and ongoing training.
  • Set revenue goals with Sr. Pastor and Board
  • Manage grant process from discovery to required reporting
  • Work with staff to develop marketing and communication campaigns designed to increase new revenue generation.
  • Analyze market data on SR surrounding community to help identify potential opportunities.
  • Contributes to the development of SRUCCs strategic business plans, and related business development, marketing and communications plans
  • Work with the UCC SW conference and other Phoenix churches on shared programs to enhance the lives of community members and identify underserved populations and/or community gaps
  • Prepares and communicates the annual Business Development function budget; tracks and reports performance against the budget
  • Prepares and communicates the Business Development department annual goals; tracks and reports performance against the goals
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Skills:

  • Proven business development leadership with strong organizational skills
  • Experience and understanding of church and preschool concepts and terminology
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, social media, and web site development
  • Proven ability to successfully work independently as well as ability to effectively interact and maintain positive working relationships
  • Proven ability to successfully and independently plan, organize, manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Proven ability to identify the need for change and the ability to drive change, working at both strategic/visionary levels yet able to execute tactically in a hands-on manner
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Experience successfully creating and/or maintaining processes
  • Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail

*Education/Experience

*5+ years business development, management and/or marketing experience in service sector environments required. Bachelor s degree in Management, Marketing, Business Administration, Finance, or related area is preferred.
