As Capital Projects Professional, youll have the opportunity to contribute to capital transportation projects for the City of Tucker, GA. Working with other professionals on the team, city staff, contractors, and citizens, youll work on variety of capital improvement projects including sidewalks, intersection improvements, park improvements and traffic studies. You will participate in or coordinate all aspects of project development from initial concept to completion of construction. Under the general direction of the City Engineer you will coordinate the Citys capital improvement program and specific CIP Projects. The primary function of this position is to initiate, expedite, facilitate, monitor, and assist with budget development of capital improvement projects. The work includes acting as a single point of contact for projects throughout the planning, budgeting, design, review, construction and inspection processes; monitoring project costs ensuring projects meet budget constraints; updating and ensuring the project stays on schedule and that the schedule is regularly briefed within the City; and ensuring that the project and the Citys contractors complete the scope of the project within specifications. The position will require high level organization, communication and presentations skills to ensure persons and agencies affected by projects are informed and processes are established; to coordinate and communicate design development, plan reviews, permitting, changes in design or construction and internal or external agency involvement and approval; to facilitate regular coordination meetings with City staff, consultants, and contractors; to prepare memos and reports on capital improvement projects for City management and the public; to facilitate public meetings to keep the public informed of the direction and progress of public works capital projects; and to act as the point of contact to respond to and resolve inquiries regarding capital improvement projects from residents, business owners, contractors and city staff.

The minimum qualifications for this position are:
  • Bachelor s degree in Architectural, Civil, Urban Planning, Construction Management or closely related field

  • Four (4) years of full-time professional level experience in capital projects

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher, and Microsoft Project

  • Possession of a valid Georgia drivers license;

  • Manage and work independently on multiple major projects or sensitive problems and coordinate work of others
  • Analyze problems, identify alternatives, and negotiate effective solutions
  • Interpret, evaluate, and explain development plans, construction drawings, and applicable ordinances
  • Effective team building techniques and experience leading teams within a complex organization
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible, and work in a fast-paced and diverse customer environment
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff, city management, developers, business owners, and other agencies
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with city staff, development clientele, and the public
