The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). This is a renewable, full-time, non-tenured, administrative position and reports to the Chief Information Officer. The position may be located in Reno or Las Vegas, Nevada. The NSHE is comprised of eight institutions : two universities, a state college, four community colleges and a research institute. The public system of higher education in Nevada continues to experience growth with significant opportunities in serving over 105,000 students and 12,000 employees.
The CISO reports directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and supervises one Senior Security Engineer and two Security Analysts. The CISO serves a key role in NSHE leadership, working closely with NSHE senior administration and campus leadership. The CISO is an advocate for the NSHEs total information security needs and is responsible for the development and delivery of a comprehensive information security strategy to optimize the security posture of the NSHE. The CISO leads the development and implementation of a security program that leverages collaborations and system-wide resources, facilitates information security governance, advises senior leadership on security direction and resource investments, and designs appropriate policies to manage information security risk.
APPROXIMATE STARTING DATE: June 1, 2019
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution with ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in complex information technology environments with direct work experience in information security (or) an advanced degree with seven years of progressively responsible experience in complex information technology environments with direct work experience in information security. Internationally recognized certification such as the Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) is preferred.
