Chief Technologist - PTA

Position Summary

The Chief Technologist uses attained PTA expertize to accomplish a variety of technical activities to ensure the Corpus Christi Polymers PTA and utilities plant operates safely, environmentally compliant and efficiently, while delivering the forecasted quantities of PTA at the required quality.

Duties are expected to include, monitoring, analyzing process values and plant issues. Suggesting and proving new technologies, operating campaigns and participating in root cause analysis to provide mitigation to reduce downtime, improve quality and reduce variable costs.

The position will also drive the modification process and will develop heat and material balances, create PFDs and P&IDs, facilitate design through the HAZOP process, size and prepare equipment specifications utilizing knowledge of process industry codes and standards. Participate with the implementation of modifications, including commissioning, training and SOP writing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serves as the PTA subject matter expert for PTA and provides proactive mentoring to process engineers.
  • Actively promotes safety management guidelines in compliance with site, OSHA, state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinates and leads technical problem solving, monitors plant performance and improves variable costs by suggesting new alternatives to improve safety, environmental compliance, variable costs, quality, increased production and plant uptime.
  • Ensure that all work is done in accordance with approved working procedures.
  • Provide PTA knowledge and track reasons for downtime so as to enable plant to maximize uptime.
  • Leads planning, cost development, and scheduling for process plant shutdowns startups and normal operation.
  • Driver for ISO 9001.
  • Liaise with vendors of equipment for technical issues and improvements.
  • Leads and updates the development of the businesss capital program standard operating conditions, product quality control and ensures PTA procedures remain current.
  • Drives the modification and improvement process.
  • Keeps up to date with Safety Management Guidelines (OSHA PSM), Standard Operating Conditions, Product Quality Control and ensures PTA procedures remain current.
  • Keeps abreast of current PTA technology for developing cost effective PTA process improvements.
  • Leads process improvements from conception, through design to implementation, training and documentation updates.

  • Uses critical thinking and reflective analysis to make best decisions for the plant and the team following plant policies, procedures, OSHA, and environmental standards

Education and Experience Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
  • 10-15 years prior experience as a process engineer in the PTA industry
  • M.S. in Chemical Engineering
