Clinical Research Coordinator

Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH) – Boston, MA

The Clinical Research Coordinator II will support perinatal substance use projects within the Mass General Hospital HOPE Clinic, the Division of General Academic Pediatrics, and the MGH Substance Use Disorder Initiative. The main project that he/she will be involved in will be a National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network (CTN) funded pragmatic clinical trial of injectable vs. sublingual buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder in pregnancy and in the postpartum period. He/she will perform all activities necessary to recruit, screen, randomize, and retain sufficient numbers of study participants. He/she perform study visits for each participant according to study protocol and performs data abstractions. They will coordinate participant activities involving outside providers. He/she will manage site resources, coordinate study staff to ensure smooth implementation of the protocol following required regulatory guidelines, maintain study supply inventory, ensures accuracy and timeliness for data collection and other source documentation, and provide ongoing communication regarding study progress and roadblocks encountered.

  • Assist in the execution of study protocols, recruitment strategies, and manage data collection forms in collaboration with staff and study investigators
  • Manage study recruitment, screen for eligibility, assist in randomization, and promote study retention.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies
  • Act as a study resource for providers, patients and families
  • Train clinical research staff and volunteers on the implementation of the intervention protocols, as well as the collection and documentation of data
  • Coordinate Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, continuing reviews, and amendments
  • Maintain research data and study databases
  • Organize and interpret data
  • Monitor and evaluate outcomes and process data collection
  • Contribute to study team meeting agendas
  • Maintain a positive and accommodating relationship with study team, health center staff, and patients
  • Perform reference searches in print and electronic media
  • Perform data analysis and QA/QC checks
  • Review data for quality assurance, descriptive statistics and manuscripts, as required
  • Assist with writing reports
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Qualifications

  • High level time management and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of data management program such as REDCap or Qualtrics
  • Ability to operate independently in a clinical research setting and with good judgment
  • Ability to build trust and maintain confidentiality with diverse populations

  • Proficiency of various software packages, including Microsoft Office, NVivo, REDCap, and other desktop tools
  • Ability to interpret acceptability of data results and produce reports
  • Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems
  • Interest in working with women who use drugs during pregnancy and treating them in a welcoming, non-stigmatizing way
  • Knowledge about addiction and substance use disorder


    BA/BS Required
    Masters degree in related field preferred.

    Minimum of 1-2 years of directly related experience required

    Assist in training, orienting and monitoring of project staff, interns and volunteers.




    General office environment with ability to travel to research sites as required. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
