Clinical Social Worker- Child Mental Health Integration

  • The Clinical Social Worker will provide program development, clinical training, direct service, and liaison activities in a growing system of primary care and specialty programs encompassing three hospital campuses and 12 neighborhood clinics. Social Worker s clinical services will occur at medical sites and will include evaluation, treatment planning, and treatment for children and adolescents in psychotherapeutic modalities as appropriate to diagnosis and treatment needs. Social Worker will work with other clinicians who are providing collaborative services such as psychopharmacology and case management services as well as medical and surgical colleagues. Social Worker will consult to and teach other staff and trainees within the psychiatric outpatient service. Social Worker will supervise the treatment provided by mental health trainees as assigned, will participate/teach in diversity training activities within the Department, and will participate in UM and QI activities to improve patient outcome, satisfaction, and the delivery of cost effective services. This position has a productivity requirement as determined by departmental guidelines.

    Knowledge, skills and abilities required upon entrance into the position: Ability to develop rapport with diverse children and adolescents having mental and/or substance use disorders. Ability to assess children and adolescents for DSM-V disorders utilizing an understanding of normal child and adolescent development and a strengths-based parenting/family assessment model. Ability to develop individualized treatment plans utilizing a strengths-based approach with emphasis on improving functionality within a developmental context using a full range of appropriate treatment modalities (such as crisis intervention, individual and group psychotherapy, family-based therapy, supportive therapy, intermittent therapy, and/or behavior therapy). Ability to provide clinical care to patients commonly seen in primary care and specialty mental health settings, which include core disorders, such as children/adolescents with mood/anxiety disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, adjustment disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance use, social skills deficits, developmental delays, and family system conflicts. Knowledge, skill and experience in at least two core areas of psychosocial treatment (e.g. psychodynamic therapy, play therapy, family-based therapy, short-term therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, problem-oriented therapy, group psychotherapy, or other evidence-based approaches), with a commitment to continuing professional growth by development of new clinical skills and mastery of additional techniques. Skill and experience in working as a productive and collegial member of multi-disciplinary mental health teams and in collaborating with other health care providers (e.g. primary care and medical specialists). Ability to include a focus on population health, and to recognize opportunities for early intervention and prevention services. Ability to support academic programs of the department, in



    Current MA licensure as LICSW (Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker)

    When required, must be credentialed by the CHA Medical Staff for practice in relevant clinical practice areas
