BON SECOURS CENTRAL CODING POSITION SUMMARY Appropriately assigns ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes to inpatient/outpatient medical records. Meets or exceeds productivity standards. Appropriately assigns correct APC or DRG. Effectively interacts with CDMP program. Abstracts data from medical records. JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. RHIA or RHIT with CCS or equivalent credentials preferred. If experienced as a coder must be able to achieve CCS within first year of hire. 2. Previous coding experience; at least two (2) years’ experience in an HIM coding department of an acute care facility of moderate size. Requires coding skills experience of at least two (2) years in ICD, CPT, APC’s and DRG’s appropriate to 3. the successful completion of responsibilities. 4. Requires ICD-10-CM/PCS training completion. 5. Requires strong skills in the following areas: interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written; problem identification and analysis; evaluation of medical records 6. Requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, to include accurate data entry skills. 7. Strong working knowledge of HIM computer applications and software integration with multiple systems is required. Previous experience with 3M 360 Encompass Encoder, EPIC electronic health record, and a home coding work flow application preferred. 8. A strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office applications is required. 9. Requires the ability to: be mobile; move to all areas of the department and facility; and be able to lift objects consistent with normal HIM environment; uses lifting techniques demonstrated or discussed in orientation. 10. Knows existing policies and procedures and ensures that existing processes are performed according to these policies and procedures.
