Job Description :

  • The Village of Lincolnwood, Illinois (12,590 – 2010 census) is a professionally-managed home-rule municipality directly north of the City of Chicago with a unique blend of residential, commercial, and manufacturing areas.
  • The Village is seeking an individual to serve as the Intern in the Community Development Department.
  • The position is expected to assist with the administration of the Community Development Department and to provide support for ongoing activities.
  • The duties of the position include undertaking and preparing research, minute-taking, participation in committees, preparation of presentations, webmaster for the Department’s webpages, and serving as an ombudsman for the Department.
  • The Intern is expected to provide research and develop documents for consideration by various bodies including the Economic Development Commission, Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.

 

Qualifications :

  • Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree and be working toward a Master's Degree from an accredited College or University in Urban Planning/Studies, Geography, Public Administration, or related fields.
  • The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics and abilities: excellent attention to detail, ability to communicate well, make appropriate decisions using sound judgment, the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and stakeholders, ability to work outside in various environmental conditions, and ability to write reports, minutes, memoranda, directives, and letters.

  • The Village offers a mentoring opportunity for urban planning or MPA students with seasoned staff members involved with many professional associations including ICMA, ILCMA, IAMMA, and the American Planning Association. This is a part-time position that requires a candidate who can work an average of 20 hours per week.
  • The position is paid $15 per hour and is eligible for participation in the IMRF pension program.
  • This position is classified as a non-exempt, non-union, part-time position.
