JCW is currently recruiting for a Database Administrator for a multinational financial services firm in NYC. This position will sit within the IT department and the administrator will be focused on installing, configuring, upgrading and troubleshooting databases throughout the organization. Prior experience in both Oracle RDBMS and MS SQL Server is required. 

Responsibilities:• Install, upgrade and configure databases and related elements throughout the organization. • Plan database admin tasks and provide end-user support. • Conduct performance monitoring and capacity monitoring tasks. • Oversee security administration for all databases. • Perform backups, fail-overs and recoveries. • Scripting and automation tasks. • Systems and Disaster Recovery initiatives related to the firm's databases. • Provide support to developers and other IT staff members, as needed.  Requirements:• 3+ years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server (2012-2017). • 3+ years of experience in Oracle RDBMS. • UNIX Shell/Perl/Python scripting and PowerShell scripting. • Prior experience with Sybase ASE and MongoDB. • Linux/Unix/Solaris experience. • B.A. or B.S. in IT, Computer Science or a related field.  

What You'll Do

As a DBA at Sentry, you will be able to work with SQL Server, MongoDB and other database platforms and will play a role in shaping our cloud and colocation strategies in the future.  Additionally, you will:

• Partner with Infrastructure, Applications Development, Application Platform Services, Architecture, and Data Services to provide solutions as part of Technology and Infrastructure Services.  • Administer and supports the database platforms utilized by application systems. • Perform installations of the database software in required environments, performs systems maintenance of the database platform, including upgrades and service packs, as well as customizations to the platform required for Sentry standards or application requirements. • Create database backup plans and schedules.  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to Applications Development in the design and debugging of data bases. • Investigate potential system performance problems, implements emergency recovery procedures for application data bases as well as manages the physical storage of data. • Research, evaluate, and recommend data base educational material to peers and management.
