$5,417.00 to $6,250.00 per month ($65,004.00 to $75,000.00 annually)

Position Summary*
The Director of OLLI, under general direction of the Associate Dean of the College of Liberal & Creative Arts (LCA), is a managerial role responsible for providing leadership and direction in the growth, development and implementation of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) as an innovative model for instruction and community engagement for people over 50 years old.
OLLI creates opportunities for continued learning with programs and activities for social and cultural enrichment in a supportive environment.
Lead responsibilities include supervising professional, volunteer and student staff, overseeing the academic program, including recruiting and hiring instructors, creating each terms schedule, budgeting; membership development and support services; volunteer committees; marketing and planning.
Position Information
    Coordinate the OLLI Program with College Leadership, Staff and External Constituents
  • Build professional relationships with interested parties on campus, including University
  • Advancement, all Colleges on campus and the College of Extended Learning, and solicit
    involvement and support;
  • Coordinate with University and College teams and personnel, specifically Development, retiring faculty and staff, faculty in the early retirement program, and Alumni relations;
  • Manage a faculty advisory committee and leadership council in consultation with the Associate Dean, and the OLLI leadership council.
  • Develop collaborative alliances and partnerships with key individuals, companies, organizations, and local communities as well as other institutions to advance the mission of OLLI and build membership.
  • Manage the membership advisory committee and various OLLI committees in consultation with the Associate Dean.
  • Networks with other OLLI programs to share information, track trends and identify areas for effective collaboration.

  • Manage the OLLI Curriculum and Events
  • Develop, manage and evaluate OLLI curricular initiatives including programs, classes and community outreach activities;
  • Oversees the implementation of the registration system, including online registration.
  • Work with the OLLI curriculum committee on curriculum review.
  • Establish program priorities and prepare each terms schedule of courses and events to assure a balanced curriculum that meets the evolving interests of members.
  • Develop external marketing, promotional and publicity strategies and events to build OLLI membership to at least 1,000 members as required by The Bernard Osher Foundation;
  • Plans, oversees, and independently directs logistical efforts of OLLI daily operations; manages office workflow, troubleshoots customer relations issues, maintains program records
  • Recruit well qualified and experienced instructors, principally drawing on current and retired SF State faculty members and community leaders
  • Develops, interprets, and maintains policies and practices for effective functioning of OLLI
  • Work with the College Communication Team Lead to develop internal & external marketing, publicity and instructor recruitment initiatives and materials;
  • Maintain a quality experience for membership;

  • Membership Development and Member Relations
  • Promotes OW to target audiences and retains members through appropriate activities
  • Coordinates and oversees member communication, including face-to-face, website content, newsletter, promotional and program resource materials, surveys and bulletin board posting.
  • Responds to the changing needs of members.
  • Builds community among the OLLI participants and sustains an atmosphere of conviviality and commitment to the Program and University.

  • Reporting
  • Draft monthly membership, budget and event reports for the College and Associate Dean.
  • Prepares and monitors quarterly and annual reports for the Associate Dean that will eventually be submitted to The Bernard Osher Foundation at the request of the Dean.
  • Prepares status reports as a tool for recommending future actions.

  • Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications*
  • Equivalent to a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Sciences in the arts, education, humanities or social sciences.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in customer service and/or programming.
  • Experience in managing people, programs and budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment.

  • Experience building memberships in business or non-profit organizations, working with foundation managers and boards, and coordinating with non-profit and city government agencies.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and presentation skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment as well as independently.
  • The ability to build consensus, communicate, and work collaboratively.
  • Administrative experience in an academic setting preferred.
  • Experience managing programs for older adults and working with volunteers.

This position is located at the SF State main campus with travel and coordination to SF State s Downtown Campus at 835 Market St, 6th floor, San Francisco CA.
