ROLE SUMMARY

The Portfolio and Decision Analysis group (PDA), part of the Chief Business Office organization, is uniquely positioned within Pfizer as internal consultants to facilitate tough investment and trade-off decisions for the clinical portfolio and to serve as an early warning system for potential issues that could impact decision-making The Director, Competitive Intelligence, Corporate and Internal Medicine will represent the external competitive micro and macro business environment, in all internal discussions, business planning, key processes and decision-making forums.

The Director, Competitive Intelligence, Corporate and Internal Medicine has an analytic approach, and is a story-teller in communication style, with the ability to analyze and crystalize multiple CI data sources into a coherent and convincing actionable insight, that can recruit and educate internal customers.

The Director, Competitive Intelligence, Corporate and Internal Medicine will initiate, plan, and lead the execution of the CI collection efforts (both primary and secondary), ensure compliance, analyze information and derive actionable insight, and will report it back to the internal customer (BU/TA/Region).

The Director, Competitive Intelligence, Corporate and Internal Medicine will be an integral part of the decision-making forums of the internal customer and will quarterback all the CI activities on their behalf.

The Director, Competitive Intelligence, Corporate and Internal Medicine will work closely with the PDA category leader to ensure informed decisions and unifies voice to the internal customer.

The Director, Competitive Intelligence, Corporate and Internal Medicine is an individual with high integrity that can defend their professional point of view in high stress executive setting.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand and internalize Category and Pfizer corporation goals, strategy, objectives and tactics.
  • Help assess alignment of strategy to enterprise criteria (e.g. breakthrough, competitive ranking)
  • Analyze multiple sources of intelligence and crystalize them to a well-articulated insight, and become a thought partner to the internal customers
  • Instruct and guide the CI Research and Analysis Managers on secondary research topics and assure quality research is conducted
  • Participate in all decision-making forums, representing the competition and the external environment, sometimes in collaboration with the Research & Analysis Manager
  • In collaboration with the internal customer, develop the annual CI plan and budget, that will include:
    • Prioritization of the CI targets and activities based on Pfizer assets prioritization
    • Annual Key Intelligence Topics (KITs)/Key Intelligence Questions (KIQs) to support strategic and operational plan;
    • Primary CI research plan to clearly understand data request; align with internal customer; identify and select appropriate; compliant vendor; evaluate vendor output; and communicate output to internal customer
    • Implementing strategic CI frameworks such as Early Warning System; Market simulations; Blind Spot Analysis on a corporate level (above BU)
    • Competitive landscape monitoring
    • Competitors activities monitoring
    • Ad-Hoc projects
    • Secondary CI research frequency, topics
  • Coordinate and produce the Corporate CI updates (e.g. DPS,regular earnings updates, BoD letter/reports, Financial Reporting landscape, WRD STC BOD updates/TA Spotlight, analyst briefing decks) with the support of the CI Knowledge Manager and the Research and Analysis team
  • Produce regular (e.g. weekly) updates, and create an State of the union presentation in preparation for annual planning cycle in all relevant forums
  • Contribute insight to ELT and BOD CI products
  • Assure proper updates of the centralized CI database
  • Train and supervise the activities of the CI Research & Analysis managers working with him/her
  • Support corporate level BD activities create Deal Dossier for each BD target

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience required.
  • Direct experience working in competitive intelligence or related roles in Healthcare/pharma
  • Bachelors degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference for advanced degree holders who have a focus in decision analysis, statistics, business or medicine/science
  • Prior experience working directly with senior executives is preferred
  • Broad knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare environment
  • Highly collaborative, extensive track record of building and nurturing productive networks and teams
  • Service oriented, self-motivated, curious and results oriented
