Job Description

The Director/Associate Director will be responsible for the development and execution of research plans in support of the selection and advancement of existing and new therapeutic assets for inflammatory, fibrotic, and metabolic diseases. The successful applicant will be an exceptional scientist with experience in and the ability to direct research efforts and collaborate with KOLs in specific areas of interest to the company. Responsibilities include design, coordination, and implementation of key research studies aimed at lead candidate selection, animal proof-of concept, pharmacology, mechanism of action and other innovative studies aimed at the selection and advancement of lead drug candidates into and through clinical development. This work will be done through contracts with external academic, biotech, and CRO labs. The successful candidate will publish and present research results at annual research conferences and become a KOL in their own right.

The Director/Associate Director will work under the direction of the Executive Director, Research and work closely with internal regulatory, chemistry, clinical and toxicology/DMPK functions to support lead candidate selection and research. The Associate Director is responsible for hands-on design, execution and coordination of all research activities on potential lead candidates including lead identification, indication selection, mechanism of action, and in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record of seven or more years of research experience (ideally in Biotech or Pharma) successfully planning and implementation innovate research studies in Inflammation or fibrosis aimed at the selection and advancement of clinical candidates into and through development.

You will participate in efforts to identify, evaluate, and develop lead candidates to novel drug targets by interacting with external academic and biotech labs, KOLs, core labs and CROs to carry out research programs aimed at selecting and advancing lead candidates into and throughout clinical development. You will work closely with an experienced team of interdisciplinary scientists and have regular opportunities to present findings internally, at public conferences and through publications. You will also participate in efforts to identify, evaluate and license new lead candidates from external sources. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, resourceful, innovative, very organized, and enjoy working in a dynamic team environment in a virtual biotech model.


Qualifications

Required Skills/Experiences:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology or related scientific discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in pharmaceutical research and development, ideally in industry
  • Experience in planning, designing, budgeting, and implementing research studies internally and through external vendors
  • A broad knowledge of research in the area of immunology, inflammation, fibrosis, GPCR signaling and/or lipid metabolism with a proven track record of advancing compounds into the development pipeline and/or a track record of independent creative research with publications.
  • Experience working with external vendors including CRO s.
  • An outstanding publication/patent record.
  • Exceptional knowledge of scientific area of responsibility
  • Ability to ask critical scientific questions and critiques devised hypotheses
  • Demonstrates creativity and novel approaches to solving scientific problems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A burning desire to make a difference though drug discovery and development
