POSITION: Employment Specialist

POSTION STATUS: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

SUPERVISOR: Division Director, Housing & Family Stabilization Services

POSITION SUMMARY: The Employment Specialist is responsible for delivering employment and vocational services to benefit Family Tree clients across multiple programs. The Employment Specialist will cultivate and maintain employer relationships to obtain job placements for our clients, as well as build partnerships with workforce centers, vocational professionals, etc. to connect clients with enhanced services. The Employment Specialist will work directly with clients to enhance their employment opportunities, including assessing job-readiness skills and providing guidance for job search, training, placement, retention, and/or promotion.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in Business or Human Service related field plus at least one year of direct professional experience, preferably as an employment specialist or providing employee/vocational support. Requires working knowledge of Metro Denver vocational programs, employers and resources, knowledge of current trends in job search strategies, as well as the ability to assess job-readiness skills and to provide individualized guidance and coaching. Must be able to build and maintain working relationships with clients, peer case managers and advocates, and to network and build partnerships with community providers, including motivating businesses and employers to hire and support Family Tree clients in the workplace.

Must have strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and computer skills, as well as the ability to work independently and in multiple team settings. Must have access to dependable transportation on a daily basis for multiple work locations and various off-site meetings. Must have a valid Colorado drivers license, car insurance, and acceptable motor vehicle record. Must clear background checks with Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred but not required.


  • Support the mission, vision and values of Family Tree to help people overcome and end child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, and homelessness to become safe, strong and self-reliant.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships and partnerships with local employers to develop job positions and placements that are suitable to the employment and income needs of Family Tree clients; Serve as a liaison between employers and clients.
  • Evaluate current Metro Denver job openings and target industries for clients in active job search; Make initial contacts and follow up with employers who have openings that match clients needs and capacities.
  • Educate case managers from multiple programs about employment services and opportunities for clients, partnering to support clients with their employment goals.
  • Meet with Family Tree clients who are actively looking for work at the various programs; Assess job seekers skills and resources needed for employment goals; Assist with resume, application and cover letter production, applying for jobs on line, in person and at job fairs, obtaining appropriate training, education and support services, and job placement and retention; Coordinate additional employment resources with outside agencies
  • Provide and promote regularly scheduled drop-in office hours at various Family Tree locations for clients seeking jobs and information/support on employment issues
  • Develop and maintain relationships to link clients with other partner agencies such as Metro Denver County Workforce Centers, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, CWEE, Community Colleges, Trade Schools, etc.
  • Develop and manage accurate records for all duties; Maintain data on primary employer contacts, services provided to clients, and job placements; Submit monthly reports regarding clients served, job placements and pay, outcomes, and other data as requested.
  • Attend internal and community meetings as needed and appropriate to support employment opportunities/goals and to represent Family Tree.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the ability to meet the physical demands associated with essential functions: talking, hearing (ordinary conversation), and seeing (ability to read paperwork, a computer screen), manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer, electronic devices, calculator and telephone.

SCHEDULE: Full-time, Monday Friday, some evenings and weekends required.
