Furniture Fabrication Assistant

Matthew Fairbank – Brooklyn, NY

Matthew Fairbank is seeking assistance in the production of decorative furniture, lighting
and objects. Learn the ins-and-outs of the business, working alongside us in our Brooklyn
based studio. The ideal candidate would be someone who has some previous woodworking
experience (likely, less than one year) and a strong desire to learn and build on that
knowledge. Our goal is to train someone to become an integral part of our team.

5 days/wk, 9am-5pm
Full Time Permanent
Immediate Hire

-Fabrication assistance using in-house tools inclusive of: manual lathe, panel saw, table
saw, band saw, jointer, drill press, etc. under the guidance of our Senior Woodworker
-Sanding of wood furniture & lighting parts to finish-level quality prior to staining/ lacquering
-Working across mediums and with various materials, including (but not limited to): wood,
brass, steel, leather/suede, glass, mirror, stone, etc.
-Cleaning and preparing of finished works for packaging
-Wrapping, boxing and crating of pieces for shipment
-Accept and check-in incoming goods and oversee outgoing deliveries. Reject materials that
do not meet MF standards
-Assist in organizing and streamlining our studios production and output
-Sit in on our weekly studio production meetings to ensure projects keep on schedule

Who You Are:
-Entry-level experience in fabrication of furniture, or product-build industry preferred
-Able to take direction, be organized, and switch gears quickly to meet the demands of the
production schedule
-Time management skills are critical, as is a strong attention to high-quality detail
-An interest in efficiency and the way things are made. Solutions-orientated
-A person who can handle several concurrent projects and shifts in priority
-Someone who takes pride in their work. Reliable, collaborative, and communicative in a
small team setting. Someone able to wear a variety of hats
-Aptitude for learning new tasks and developing new skills (we want you to grow with us)!

Bonus - Helpful (but not required):
- Previous experience working in a related field or studio environment
