Grants and Contracts Specialist II

University of Texas at Dallas – Richardson, TX

The primary role of a Grants and Contracts Specialist (GCS) is to assist faculty and staff in obtaining and managing sponsored awards while assuring proper stewardship of those funds. Incumbent will work closely with Principal Investigator(s) (PIs), Departments, Schools, other University offices, and external sponsors negotiating research contract agreements.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in business or related field. Three years of experience in the preparation and processing of research grant and/or contract proposals and in their administration, both pre-and post award or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office with excellent word processing skills. Work is performed in an office setting. Exacting accuracy in all phases of work. Proficiency in written and verbal communication to interpret administrative policy, communicate with faculty and staff, and negotiate and correspond with a funding agency. Occasional travel for training seminars and professional meetings. Good interpersonal skills and verbal skills are essential. Ability, with a high degree of proficiency, to manage and resolve a multitude of complex tasks and issues.

Preferred Education and Experience Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This is an intermediate level position in the Office of Sponsored Projects. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Interpreting sponsor guidelines for proposal submissions.
  • Reviewing routine/complex proposals and budgets for compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Utilizes multiple sponsor and internal electronic systems and websites.
  • Acts as liaison for UTD to sponsors, faculty and staff throughout the campus.
  • Resolves complex issues independently.
  • Reviews awards for acceptance.
  • Ensures research compliance issues are addressed.
  • Facilitates sponsor changes to awards.
  • Drafts, negotiate and executes contracts.
  • Monitors the timeliness of the submission of sponsor reports and other deliverables.
  • Facilitates project close-outs.
  • Responsible for remaining current on issues in the field of research administration.
  • Attends training for professional development.
