HOME HOSPITAL STUDY PARAMEDIC / PART TIME / BWH - GENERAL MEDICINE

The Home Hospital Study Paramedic is a paramedic who treats acutely ill patients in the home under the medical direction of the home hospital study team. The Paramedic is a forward-thinking, creative individual who wants to practice medicine in a novel clinical setting. The Paramedic will provide acute care in a patients home and will be part of the home hospital team consisting of physician, registered nurse, physical therapist, social worker, home health aide, and research assistant, as needed by the patient. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
The Paramedic will receive additional training on protocol-specific interventions, and will receive medical direction from a physician member of the home hospital team. Responsibilities include in-home patient care to acutely ill patients, documentation, communication with the home hospital team, and others listed below. The Paramedic must be available to work late afternoon to evening shifts during the week, weekend, and holidays as scheduled. The weekly schedule will be determined by the Principal Investigator. Must have own personal vehicle and valid drivers license with no moving violations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide high quality medical care to acutely ill adults in their home per study protocol.
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment and prioritize decisions in the best interest of the patient.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members in oral and written format.
  • Establish positive rapport with patient and the patients caregivers.
  • Documentation is completed per established guidelines and time frames.
  • DPH/OEMS mandated education is completed as required.
  • Required study education is completed as required.
  • Required certifications are maintained.
Current MA EMT-P Certification. Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification. Current ACLS Certification. Advanced certification (i.e. FP-C, CCP-C, CP-C) preferred. Must have experience with IFT equipment including infusion pumps. IFT or Critical Care experience desired. Must have own personal vehicle and valid drivers license with no moving violations. Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team. Computer, tablet, and smartphone proficiency required with ability learn new software easily. Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, adept at working with a diverse population. Anticipate challenges and develops and implements strategies for addressing them. Maintain variable work schedule to provide patient care as needed (evenings, holidays, and weekends).
Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a field paramedic.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Current MA EMT-P Certification.
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
  • Current ACLS Certification.
  • Advanced certification (i.e. FP-C, CCP-C, CP-C) preferred.
