Human Centered Design Researcher & Strategist-Junior

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

At Atlas Research, we are dedicated to improving people?s lives by tackling the complex challenges and opportunities facing priority, disadvantaged, and underserved populations served by the federal government, including Veterans, Medicare and Medicaid recipients, HIV AIDS, maternal and child health, and reproductive health. In this position, you will contribute to service delivery to the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Food and Drug Administration, among others.

In this position, you will be working in a small, cross-functional team of Human-Centered Design practitioners to understand and synthesize customer needs, strategize improved service delivery, and create innovative solutions for public-sector clients. As a part of this team, you will also contribute to the culture, process, and visioning of our growing Human-Centered Design capability.


You will:

  • Leverage expertise with communicating and envisioning service concepts across a variety of platforms on client-facing projects.
  • Assist with the delivery of projects in industries from healthcare and a variety of public sector clients.
  • Comprehend generative and evaluative user research to easily weave multiple stakeholders into the project plan.
  • Distill complex problems into simple, compelling visual frameworks including journey maps to identify points of improvement. Build off these learning to create engaging customer experiences.
  • Participate in an iterative design process in close collaboration with stakeholders in the field. Test concepts and prototypes in the real world.
  • Learn new tools and do self-guided work within a fast-paced environment
  • Define project scope and work with the program manager to respond proactively to rapidly changing environments.
  • Apply a mix of left- and right-brain thinking to guide the production of high-quality deliverables, including progress reports, journey maps, service blueprints, and interactive prototypes.
  • Leverage expertise from Atlas Research Digital team, including data scientists, UX and UI designers, and illustrators to enable the team to look at the problem from different points of view, translating human-centered insights into solutions to better people s lives.


    Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional experience
  • 1+ years of experience in design thinking or its components, including qualitative research (planning and conducting), analysis, ideation, prototyping, user testing, and implementation.
  • Please provide a portfolio of your work.
  • Experience in user/customer experience, service design, design thinking, design research, business design, or business/user requirements.
  • Strong writing skills a must
  • BA or BS degree
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience facilitating ideation and strategy workshops with both clients and stakeholders
  • Experience creating research plans, leading user and secondary research, and synthesizing results into written reports
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience managing clients and partners
  • Experience in working with digital technologies
  • Experience working in a professional consulting environment
  • Experience writing proposals
  • Experience working in federal healthcare industry a plus
  • Ability to be inspiring, open-minded, hardworking, collaborative, and thoughtful
  • Possession of excellent leadership skills to be used for consensus building and mentoring
  • Experience with communicating visually using Adobe Creative Cloud or Sketch a plus
  • Experience in visual, product, or user interface design a plus
  • Experience with business modeling, research and analytics, and development a plus
  • Solution-focused and medium-agnostic, willing to step out of your core skill set or discipline to find the correct solution to a challenge.
