Daikin Applied HVAC Apprenticeship Opportunity

Learn a new trade with a great company! Daikin Applied in partnership with Trident Technical College is recruiting for HVAC Technician Apprentices. You will work full time earning $15-$20 per hour to start (DOE) and Daikin will be presenting sponsorship for all HVAC classes at Trident Technical College in the evenings (details provided during interview). The successful applicant will have all tuition and books paid for by Daikin Applied as long as Apprentice maintains a 3.2 GPA. Apprentice will also partake in OEM factory training which will require out of town training located at Daikin training centers throughout the United States (Miami, New York, Minneapolis), all lodging, food and travel included. Pay escalation/potential after three years will be between $25-$32 per hour.

Purpose Statement

To assist in the diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment. Responsibilities and compensation will increase based on exposure to tasks, ability to develop troubleshooting skill set, and consistent and accurate completion of assignments. HVAC equipment includes, but not limited to the following: Large and small rooftop units, split systems, air distribution, refrigeration, VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow), ductless splits, water and air cooled Chillers.

Essential Functions

Assist in Maintenance of HVAC Equipment: Repair and replace defective equipment, components, or wiring related to fan coils, water source heat pumps, applied air handling units, rooftop units, cooling towers, and condenser tubes. Inspect equipment to identify potential problems to prevent premature and unexpected breakdowns or callbacks.

Assist in Warranty Service Application: Inspect and test systems to verify functionality related to fan coils, water source heat pumps, applied air handling units, rooftop units, cooling towers, and condenser tubes.

Observe Rebuilds: Assist in the rebuild of an HVAC unit. Receive detailed direction while sharing the hands-on task responsibilities with Technicians II, III, and lead/field supervisors.

Operate & Preserve Company Equipment: Drives a company vehicle to and from jobsite Transports and maintains inventory of hand tools and necessary materials for job completion.

Document Performance: Records and reports billing, inventory, timecards, technician tip reports, and other articles as required and in a timely manner

Computer Usage: Knowledge of basic data entry and ability to navigate the use of email, internet, and word processing programs.

Customer Service: Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, verbal and written communication. Interact with customer by offering status reports of service before, during, and after each call. Explain technical information to both technical and non-technical audience.

Participate in Training: Participate in available training through regional technician trainers, off-site learning modules, and McQuay Biz. Maintain all required certifications and continue to develop new skill sets.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or Equivalent. 2 years of HVAC experience preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver s license, Pass company competency test, Must be willing to pass EPA certification within 6 months of hire.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, conduct short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate and present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

This position requires working outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms and possible extreme weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock (high voltage); and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
