Information Technology Security Architect

Pima Community College – Tucson, AZ

The Information Technology Security Architect is responsible for assisting in the coordination and design of security solutions for the information technology infrastructure at Pima Community College.

Position may require working occasional evenings and weekends and local travel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the technical implementation of enterprise-wide, cross-platform, large-scale network security systems
  • Design enterprise-wide, security systems architecture, and integration strategies spanning multiple platforms
  • Coordinate with multiple business and IT units to implement security systems that meet college plan objectives
  • Assist in preparation of budget estimates for proposed security projects and purchasing of systems through the use of contracts, bids, and request for proposals
  • Provide expert level advice, evaluation, and leadership in college-wide project security requirements
  • Provide project management to include planning, documentation, communication, and resource scheduling
  • Work with internal IT staff as well as third parties to put controls and security measures in place to enhance our physical and logical security posture
  • Monitor and identify security incidents using intrusion prevention systems, firewalls, and other monitoring systems where applicable
  • Conduct routine testing of security tools and applications
  • Conduct research into technical issues and products
  • Evaluate hardware and software solutions
  • Identify business processes and technical systems that are in need of improvement and develop solutions
  • Develop project plans involving long-term complex projects that span functional areas
  • Design, code, test, and execute security related scripts to ensure the timely resolution of security related risks
  • Evaluate and recommend courses of action in regard to evidence from an intrusion and/or an attack
  • Ensure compliance with established security incident reporting procedures
  • Attend professional conferences and training courses as required
  • Participate in standing technical committees

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Technology Security, Management Information Systems or closely related field and
  • Four years of appropriate, professional level information technology technical experience and
  • Lead or supervisory experience or related coursework


  • Candidates who possess similar minimum objective qualifications should describe in detail the education and work experience you regard as establishing the equivalency.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Current Security+, GSEC, or CEH certification and
  • A minimum of five years of experience working in an enterprise data center or networking environment

  • Strong understanding of networking principles, protocols, and standards
  • Deep packet analysis and troubleshooting with Wireshark
  • Enterprise level Firewall and IPS
  • SIEM configuration and analysis
  • Virtualization software and techniques
  • Security Incident Response
  • Disaster recovery best practices
  • Linux, Microsoft, Solaris, and network administration
  • Oracle and database security techniques
  • Supervise and motivate highly technical staff
  • Monitor and assign work to appropriate staff
  • Translate business needs into well-defined requirements and proposed solutions
  • Communicate clearly both verbally and in written communication
  • Communicate complex technical concepts and designs to non-technical audiences
  • Read and write technical documentation
  • Conceptualize, design, and document complex systems solutions
  • Advanced research methods for technical issues and products
  • Assimilate new and high level technologies
  • Evaluate hardware and software solutions
  • Project management principles
  • Prioritize and execute tasks
  • Strong customer service skills
