Lead Carpenter

A-1 Builders & Adaptations Design Studio – Bellingham, WA

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Lead Carpenters responsible for the overall construction of interior and exterior projects
assigned. Their job responsibilities include reading blueprints, understanding client
requirements, leading support carpenters, assigning tasks, possess strong knowledge of and
conduct residential maintenance, repair and remodel work.

o Support Carpenter
  • CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
o Beginning to end residential construction, including framing, remodeling existing
construction, roofing and skylights, siding, door and window installation, insulation,
drywall, flooring and tile, cabinetry, and precision trim installation
o Perform as lead carpenter, managing a crew of up to four carpenters
o Build additions/remodeling directly from blue-print designs
o Utilize blueprints and complete projects with hand, power and air tools associated
with carpentry.
o General knowledge of masonry, plumbing, heating, and electrical systems
o Responsible for managing materials, maximizing resources, and managing work flow.
o Manage projects to ensure deliverables are met on time and on budget.
o Establish relationships and manage conflict resolution with all involved parties during
projects to create an agreeable working environment.
o Accustom to extreme weather conditions, heavy lifting, and stamina.
o Possess a positive work ethic.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
o Applicants must have 5 years of full time, verifiable experience with a working
knowledge of all facets of remodeling (residential and light commercial) and some
portion of this experience in concrete flatwork and foundations. Lead Carpenters
can expect work to be delegated to them by our Project Managers, but they are
expected to not need direct supervision to accomplish their tasks. They need to
perform layout and supervision when their Project Manager is not on site.
o First Aid and CPR Certification. Lead Carpenters will have 1 month to obtain a
current certification, if not already possessed. Once this initial certification expires,
there is no need to sustain this certification.
o Own basic carpentry tools. See the more specific list of required tools below.
o Dependable, presentable transportation see the more specific description below
(titled Production Division Vehicles)
o Valid drivers license with an excellent record (record to be verified with our
insurance carrier)
o Strong knowledge of construction materials and terminology
o Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to fill out forms legibly
o Computer experience: fluency with mainstream software that performs scheduling,
emails, task lists, and contacts; fluency with web searching
o Good knowledge of safe lifting and carrying; good safety consciousness
o Complete our application form and self-evaluation, including verifiable references.
o Adequate hearing, vision, physical ability and endurance to perform work assigned
o Can perform physical exertion typically found on construction sites including, but not
limited to, carrying, lifting, climbing, crawling, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling
and hauling. able to lift 75 -125 pounds on a regular basis; regular lifting of 30-50
pounds over your head; occasionally lifting to 125 pounds over your head. You will
be expected to work inside and outside, on even and uneven surfaces, on roofs and
ladders, under structures, and in other physical situations.
o Provide a Smart Phone and your own data package at no cost to our company.
  • PRODUCTION DIVISION VEHICLES REQUIREMENTS
o The minimally acceptable vehicle for all production coworkers is:
A pickup with doors and windows that can be securely locked.
A canopy to keep tools dry, secure and locked.
A lumber rack. Your rack should be able to carry all the following simultaneously:
  • Six 12 2x6s
  • An extension ladder
  • 2 sheets of CDX plywood
The capacity to handle the following payload in addition to your own personal
tools:
  • 7 sixty-pound sacks of concrete.
  • A wheelbarrow.
  • A chop saw.
  • A table saw.
  • A power washer.
o Other vehicles that may meet this intent include, but are not limited to:
A van of any size with the capacity to handle the same payload as described
above.
Other options that are approved by our Production Manager.
o Fulltime Project Managers must be able to tow any of our company trailers
When a carpenter becomes a fulltime Project Manager they will be expected to
upgrade their vehicle at their cost to meet this towing standard.
o If the need arises for repairs or improvements to your suspension or other vehicle
systems (i.e. shocks, springs, air bags, etc.), these costs are yours to incur.
o If you dont have an appropriate vehicle at the time you are hired, we will mutually
agree upon a target date for compliance. Non-compliance may be grounds for
dismissal.
  • TOOLS REQUIRED
You are required to provide these items at your own cost. These items remain your
personal property.
o Circular saw
o Cordless Impact Driver
o Cordless drill
o Hand saws
o Initial drill bits (wood and metal). You are responsible to furnish the initial (high speed
and wood) drill bits and we will replace them henceforth.
o All standard bubble levels
o Carpenters Belt
o Chisels
o Flat bar and other smaller crow bars
o Speed Square/Combination Square/Framing square
o Chalk box
o Utility knife
o Measuring tape
o Wristwatch or another time-keeping device (i.e. cell phone, etc.)
o Appropriate footwear

o Pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, socket sets, clamps, nut driver bits, files, etc.

& BENEFITS PACKAGE SUMMARY
This is simply a summary. If you are hired our Operating Policy Manual (OPM) will
describe each benefit in much greater detail. IF THERES A DISCREPANCY BETWEEN THIS
SUMMARY AND THE OPM, THE OPM PREVAILS.
  • COMPENSATION
o Starting wage level commensurate with qualifications and experience.
o The wage range for the LEAD CARPENTER position is $24 to $27/hr.
o Annual COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) Current year: $0.23/hr.

which you will receive and sign if you are hired.

o SAFETY INCENTIVE
Each month that the Production Division performs without an injury that causes
the loss of any productive work time, we do a random drawing and award the
winner with a gift certificate equal to $10/co-worker who had worked during this
injury-free
period. For example, if there was a field crew of 8 people working that month,
the gift certificate would be for $80.
  • AFTER 60 DAYS
o SIMPLE IRA
You are to participate in the plan if you have earned at least $5,000 during the
last calendar year and are expected to earn at least $5,000 during this calendar
year. You may elect to defer up to $12,500 annually. You may alter the amount
of your contribution every January 1 and July 1 after you initiate your Simple IRA.
A-1 Builders will match 3% of your contribution dollar for dollar, but our
contribution will not exceed 3% of your compensation. This contribution may be
reduced to a level below 3% - but not below 1% - in two out of every five years.
o MEDICAL & DENTAL INSURANCE & LIFE INSURANCE
All full-time employees, (working 32hr or more), are eligible for covered under A-1
Builders A WOCs Regence medical plan the 1st day of the month after their 60
days. Employee may opt out if they can prove medical coverage through an
eligible partners medical plan. A waiver form is required for opting out. If you are
eligible to opt out, you will receive a compensation for the amount A-1 WOC
pays for your medical and dental premiums, less tax.
  • AFTER 90 DAYS
o BEREAVEMENT
Bereavement leave is offered to fulltime employees. In case of death in the
immediate family, an employee will, on request, be granted leave of absence
with pay for a maximum of three working days per incident. Immediate family
shall include any of the following persons: Father, mother, sibling or step sibling,
child, step child, spouse, parent in-law, or domestic partner.
  • AFTER 6 MONTHS
o CAFETERIA PLAN OF VOLUNTARY BENEFITS
We offer you a menu of voluntary, qualified benefits which allow you to pay for
the selected benefit(s) on a pre-tax basis. This Cafeteria Plan is a qualified plan
under Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Service Code. You are eligible for
these benefits when you have worked here for 6 months, so long as you are at
least 18 years old. When you reach these eligibility requirements you can choose

o CELLPHONES
Company cellphone plans are available after 6 mo. for employees and family
members. Cost for family and non-key employee plans will be deducted from

July 1st - $150 for clothing allowance All Employees (please see Operations
Policy Doc for specifics)
o BI-ANNUAL BONUS
Bi-Annual Bonus consists of (2) $350:
July 1st - $200 cash
December 31st - $350 cash
  • 1 YEAR & BEYOND
o VACATION/PTO (PAID TIME OFF)
Every employee will receive 2wks PTO at their first year of employment. Every
employee will receive 3wks PTO at their 5th year of employment. Every employee
will receive 4wks vacation at their 10th year of employment.
