The new XFL will reimagine football for the 21st century when it kicks off in early 2020. Delivering authentic, high-energy football for the whole family at an affordable price, the XFL will offer fast-paced games with fewer play stoppages and simpler rules. The league will launch with eight teams in markets across the country, 45-man active rosters, and a 10-week regular season schedule with a postseason consisting of two semifinal playoff games and a championship game. The XFL is a single entity that owns the league and all teams, employing professionals at the Stamford, CT headquarters as well as in each of the markets that the teams call home.

About the Position
------------------

The Manager, League Communications will be responsible for supporting the SVP, Communications and Media Relations in all department responsibilities from the league s Stamford, CT headquarters and execute plans and programs that will build and enhance the visibility of the XFL brand, key league executives and the teams.

Day-to-day functions include developing proactive and managing reactive media relations, writing/editing press releases, biographies and media alerts, monitoring clips related to the league and industry, building daily clip reports and announcement recaps, regularly updating media lists, as well as acting as a key contact for the eight team-level PR Directors.

The Manager will cultivate relationships with the media, both at the national and local level, as well as have a passion for community building. This person will also work across the XFL as a key internal communications contact, and a key resource for timely information, as well as work closely with the social media and digital team to ensure message alignment.

What you will do

Manage Public Relations Activities
----------------------------------

  • Manage and execute interviews for league personnel as well as support PR initiatives on-the-ground at training camp, media days, league meetings, game days, appearances and other events.
  • Write/edit press releases, media alerts, biographies and other communications-related material as needed.
  • Disseminate press materials, as necessary.
  • Contribute to proactive media outreach to promote the XFL, its executives, teams, coaches, players and broadcasts.
  • Monitor daily media coverage in print, radio, television and social media channels, and keep HQ team and local PR directors informed on a timely basis.
  • Maintain and build upon solid sports, business, and trade contacts with national broadcast, print and online media outlets.
  • Prepare briefing materials for league personnel media appearances, interviews and events.
  • Work with the digital team to ensure the content on XFL.com is in alignment with league communications messaging and updated with current material.
  • Spearhead campaigns to obtain company-wide corporate and industry awards.
  • Organize and coordinate executive speaking/panel opportunities for senior leadership.
  • Oversee company s media monitoring function (Cision and Critical Mention experience a huge plus), and regular internal dissemination.
  • Creative assets: Compile and manage all PR assets - photography, videos, logos and documents, as well as work with outside vendors on photo shoots, content capture opportunities and light creative development in support of PR initiatives.
  • Support Local Team PR Directors

  • Support local PR directors and their teams in execution of communications and community relations plans.
  • Develop and distribute materials from the league for the teams to implement and communicate out to their local markets.
  • Attend some games, come February 2020, to support league-level needs onsite.
  • What you will bring
    -------------------

  • 4-5 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations or marketing roles with specific experience in the sports, media and/or entertainment industries.
  • A resourceful, get the job done attitude.
  • Strong knowledge of the sports, entertainment and media landscape.
  • Ability to multi task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while paying close attention to detail.
  • An ability to identify and pitch story ideas.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a professional manner in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills, including creative approaches to internal and external communications platforms.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent project management skills.
  • Exercise flexibility and possess a proactive attitude and adaptability to change.
  • An energetic self-starter who can perform all functions of this position with enthusiasm and determination to ensure consistent achievement of deliverables, timelines and objectives across multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel and frequently work nights, weekends and holidays.
