*** This position is a part-time, temporary job, with the successful candidate working up to 20 hours per week through September 30, 2019 (on-site during normal business hours). ***

Position Summary: The Information Management Platform for Data Analytics and Aggregation (IMPALA) environment provides an infrastructure hardware platform and software services to the Human Health and Performance Directorate at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in order to conduct various data analytics. The successful candidate will work in a technically diverse and dynamic environment with a team of engineers and administrators in all aspects of operating and managing the central, high-performance computing and Linux infrastructure supporting IMPALA.

Description of Duties:

  • Perform various systems administration duties in a large Windows and Linux environment
  • Work with the Senior Administrator to maintain and manage a LINUX/RHEL-based, Cloudera-centric Data Analytics Platform
  • Provide design, support, and administration of RHEL
  • Develop data back-up systems, processes, and procedures
  • Support Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning and implementation
  • Provide production systems administration, and coordinate with database administrators
  • Support the development of policies, procedures, and processes for both internal team operations and customer-facing operations
  • Complete all assigned training (including work with and handle radiation sources), and comply with contract Safety, Health and Environmental (SH&E) and Quality Assurance (QA) Plans. Report actual and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.

Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) in a related discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.) required. A current Linux RHEL or LPIC certification is strongly preferred.

Level of Experience: Possess minimum one (1) year of systems administration experience implementing and supporting Red Hat or other similar Linux-based environments. Experience working with NASA, DoD or similar Government contracting environment is strongly preferred.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience implementing and supporting Linux in an enterprise and/or laboratory environment
  • Detailed knowledge of integrating Linux within an Active Directory-based environment
  • Detailed knowledge of Linux and Windows security hardening principles and practices
  • Working knowledge in providing system and hardware level support on Dell and HP Server technology
  • Detailed understanding of the Red Hat Linux environment
  • Effective communicator with the ability to routinely present (written, oral & presentation-style) technical issues clearly and concisely to review boards and NASA leadership in a professional manner, as well as translate complex concepts and solutions for non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in integrated team environment co-located with customers and other team members, be flexible to changing work demands, multitask, effectively prioritize competing tasks, coordinate across multiple organizations, operate with minimal direct supervision, and meet all customer deadlines.
  • Self-starter with outstanding leadership, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Committed to a high standard of safety and comply with all safety laws and company policies.
  • Maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels as determined by Avatar.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Maintain project safety records and certifications, and prepare any requested safety reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint, Access and Publisher, or ability to quickly learn.
