  • This position reports to the Director of System Engineering and is responsible for the UNIX and Linux Operating System environment and related hardware and software across multiple platforms including z/VM(mainframe) and ESX(Intel)
  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of RedHat Linux 5/6 and Sun Solaris
  • Perform the duties of Systems Administrator for the UNIX/Linux environment.
  • Manage MySQL and Apache clusters (installation, configuration, backup, recovery, upgrades, etc) for a network of high volume websites
  • Perform MySQL database health monitoring and diagnostics
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems with MySQL, Apache, and PHP (LAMP environment)
  • Monitors the performance and health of the UNIX and Linux systems and provides necessary alerts for Help desk activities
  • Perform tuning as necessary to ensure optimum performance
  • Provide guidance and assistance to the programming and technical staff relating to the UNIX and Linux environment
  • Assist the Directory of System Engineering in investigating new computing technology and future growth as it pertains to Linux/UNIX environment

Knowledge and Expertise

  • Expert understanding of operating Linux in a virtual environment under ESX and/or z/VM
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP configuration and problem resolution
  • Works efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities to produce high quality material with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service orientation in both internal and external interactions, and looks for opportunities to provide the highest quality service.
  • Evaluates and documents procedures
  • Develop reporting to measure capacity and performance of storage subsystems

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • 5 years of enterprise experience with RedHat Linux (RHEL level)
  • 3 years of experience with enterprise MySQL database administration and experience in the following areas:
    • Replication
    • High availability (HA)
    • Load balancing
  • Must have technical knowledge of hardware, software, and server virtualization
