Technical Operations
Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.
Job overview and responsibilities
The Manager Tooling Standards & Support is responsible for developing and ensuring processes are standardized and complied with for the companys satellite calibration labs (sat cal labs), tool rooms and the Tech Ops Tooling Support desk . To ensure consistency, processes and procedures are centrally maintained and enforced by this Manager position. He/she is also responsible for the creation and coordination of system wide training programs for tooling (including tool room and sat cal lab supervisors and tool room attendants) and mandatory field audits, when necessary.
  • Tooling process analysis, documentation and continuous improvement with a focus on system tool rooms & satellite cal labs
  • Process compliance assessments & training
    Ensure tool rooms and sat cal labs are properly trained on procedures and programs
  • Provide a comprehensive approach to satellite calibration capabilities and training requirements
  • Ensure standardization of calibration equipment and create justification for additional equipment and training
  • Team management: 24/7 operational tooling support desk (5 heads) plus one process improvement analyst
  • Strategic oversight of tool room and satellite calibration lab processes
  • Oversee a $1M+ budget to support all Sat Cal Labs and Tech Ops Tooling Support desk
  • Personnel development
  • Provide system wide leadership and direction to Uniteds 14 sat cal labs, 20+ tool rooms and the Tech Ops Tooling Support desk
  • Experience in Technical/Maintenance Operations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (ie. Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Proficient in developing consistent processes and procedures
  • Experience and proven ability to create and execute training programs
  • 2+ years operations management and 3 years minimum of relevant professional experience
  • Strong oral and written communications across difference audiences (ie. frontline, executive)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
  • Continuous Improvement Certification
  • Business acumen
  • Experience in data visualization tools (ie. Spotfire, Tableau)
  • Project Management
  • Minimum 5 years tooling design, acquisition and calibration
