Mental Health Technician/ Driver

St James Behavioral Health Hospital/ Outpatient – Gonzales, LA

JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION:

Perform routine and assigned tasks in the treatment of outpatients. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment and assists in control of patients who exhibit unacceptable behavior. Adheres to company policy and procedures to ensure provision of quality patient care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Transportation
  • Safely transports patients to and from St. James Behavioral Health Hospital Outpatient Program each day.
  • Responsible for operating motor vehicle in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and facility policies and procedures.
  • Immediately reports absent patients and/or patient abnormalities to the designated person as instructed.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the company vehicle. This is to include repairs, maintenance and cleaning of vehicle as instructed.
  • Refuel vehicle and discard of any trash daily before returning the vehicle to the facility in the afternoon.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and reporting of Fuel man receipts as instructed.
  • Completes transportation reports/checklist as instructed.
  • Patients
  • Assist with arrival and departure of patients.
  • Monitor patients in the building and smoke areas as instructed.
  • Perform vital signs on patients as instructed.
  • Prepare for the next day arrival of patients.
  • Building/ Housekeeping
  • Responsible for housekeeping duties as instructed to include but not limited to the following:
  • Sweeping and mopping the floors.
  • Disinfect and clean group rooms, kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Empty trash cans.
  • Restock bathrooms and kitchen.
  • Perform refrigerator temp checks weekly.
  • Clean out the refrigerator weekly.
  • Clerical
  • Answer phone as instructed.
  • Help with filing as instructed.
  • Assist with medical records as instructed.
  • Assist the Office Manager as instructed.
  • Maintain supply inventory as instructed.

  • Demonstrates teamwork by carrying out routine and assigned tasks within the St. James Behavioral Health Hospital Outpatient Program.
  • Assists in provision of maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu by monitoring compliance with St. James Behavioral Health Hospital Outpatient Program rules, providing assistance with security and supportive man-power by assisting in control of patients who exhibit unacceptable behavior.

  • Maintains current personnel file information and provides information to Human Resources in a timely manner
  • Adheres to hospital infection control and safety policies, including education, reporting, and practice implementation specific to job position

  • Attends hospital provided in-service programs

  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Previous healthcare setting required and at least one year mental health experience preferred. Appropriate education in a mental health related field might be substituted for experience. Clear MVR / Driving record.

    MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    High school graduate or G.E.D. is required.

    SPECIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good physical and mental health as evidenced by warm empathic attitude
  • Respect for the dignity, worth, and potentiality of each person and a high sense of personal integrity
  • Ability to work under close supervision with distractions/demanding patients and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Must be able to stand on feet for long intervals and have dexterity to participate in physical restraint or patients when necessary.
