ELC and Elementary School, for the 2019-2020 school year

Centner Academy is an innovative, new Miami-based private PreK3-12 dual immersion (Mandarin Chinese & Spanish) school scheduled for opening in the Fall of 2019.

  • The full-time teaching staff will be accountable for the daily creation of curriculum materials, cultural studies, field trip planning, parent communication, play programs and materials, maintenance of the classroom environment as a stimulating and safe home for its students, and a conscious awareness of ethical role modeling. Above all, our teachers will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety and quality of education for these children, ages 2 to 10.

    Reports to: Principal/Executive Director

    Status: This is an annual, exempt, salaried position with benefits.

    Salary: Commensurate with experience.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Teach classes as assigned, providing effective and professional classroom instruction, assessment, and management;
  • Design and implement curriculum and instruction consistent with the mission, values, and standards established with the Centner program;
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and on enhancing instructional practices and strategies;
  • Establish effective communications and relationships with students and parents;
  • Help to maintain school policies, regulations, and expectations;
  • Develop and maintain professional, collaborative, and collegial relationships with faculty and staff, as well as with community partners to the benefit of students and classes;
  • Support the work of the Executive Director/Principal and administrative leadership team;
  • Exhibit a growth mindset about teaching practices and work toward professional goals and development, particularly in immersion education;
  • Participate in required non-classroom activities, including Back to School Night(s), parent/student conferences, retreats, faculty and Centner meetings, field trips, and special activity and performance events;
  • Provide effective supervision of students to promote a safe and healthy environment and school experience;
  • Timely and professional completion of required reports and forms;
  • Represent the school at community or public events in the highest ethical manner;
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned respective by the Centner administration; and
  • Be responsible at all times for the supervision of students in your care during classes and for students generally at all times when on campus or off campus.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree, or higher from an accredited institution of higher education; advanced degree in early childhood development or related field preferred
  • Native fluency in Mandarin (if applying for the Mandarin positions): reading, writing, and speaking
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Demonstrated success teaching in elementary school classrooms
  • Demonstrated success in curriculum development
  • Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills in English; ability to effectively communicate and work as a team with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and students
  • Proficiency with computers, and word processing, database, electronic grading software, and other classroom technologies
  • The ability and disposition to create a joyful, effective learning environment and interact effectively with people from different cultures and experiences
  • An awareness of cultural diversity and how it can expand teaching practices and student success
  • An ability to learn from and build on varying cultural and community norms of students and their families.
  • Working Conditions

    This is a full year faculty position that follows the academic year. Teachers are expected to be on campus or actively involved in the school community during the academic day, including a percentage of their non-classroom hours. There are some required commitments outside of regular school hours, including evening and weekend school events that support all teachers work in the classroom. Consistent with their respective level of professional development, teachers are expected to travel to retreats, conferences and workshops, as well as accompany students on various experiential activities throughout the year.

    Physical requirements are consistent with light physical duties required of teachers generally. The school does not provide parking for all staff members but works to support faculty in their transportation needs.

    Centner Academy invites individuals who can relocate to Miami, Florida, to articulate and lead the process and high quality needed to establish its first school. It is hoped that our founding teaching staff will share in the excitement and fun of starting a new private school in the downtown Miami area!

    The Centners

    David and Leila Centner are serial technology entrepreneurs with multiple successful exits. They have two children including a 4-year old fluent in Mandarin, Spanish and English, who will be a student in Centner Academys first incoming PK4 class. The Centners are passionate humanitarians and philanthropists dedicated to helping women and children throughout the world achieve their maximum potential through education and sustainability programs. The Centners have earmarked scholarships to the Centner Academy for underprivileged yet qualified students.
