Outpatient Clinician

The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR) is a statewide service, research, policy, program development and capacity building agency. IHR designs its services based on an understanding of the impact of trauma. IHR’s mission is to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for families, individuals, youth and pregnant and parenting women affected by alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges and other health issues. IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families.

Summary Statement

The Outpatient Clinician will support IHR’s mission to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for women, families, individuals, youth and pregnant and parenting women affected by alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges and other health issues This position will serve clients in Cambridge and Boston area.

Essential Functions
  • Provide home-and community-based outreach, engagement, and family treatment to individuals, youth, and families utilizing the approaches of CBHI’s In-Home-Therapy (IHT) and Adolescent Community Reinforcement approach (A-CRA), Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency (ARC), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and other evidence-based models;
  • Work in collaboration with a treatment team, including the Therapeutic Training and Support Specialist, to identify and address family strengths and needs;
  • Complete comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessments using the MSDP model;
  • Develop service and treatment plans addressing family functioning, substance use, mental health, trauma, relapse prevention, and recovery support;
  • Provide wrap-around services by helping families identify and access community treatment, natural supports, and other resources;
  • Collaborate and coordinate care with other service providers and natural supports involved with the family, including attending meetings, as appropriate;
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical and billing records and reports;
  • Communicate with IHR’s main office in Cambridge through use of shared online calendars, sign in – out board, time sheets, and check in/out with supervisor;
  • Attend team and agency staff meetings;
  • Regular attendance and punctuality is required

  • Qualifications/Requirements
  • Advanced degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field is required; Clinical license preferred (LCSW, LICSW, LMHC)
  • Previous experience working with adolescents and families is preferred;
  • Previous clinical experience in the field of addictions and co-occurring issues is preferred;
  • Previous experience either with the child welfare and/or juvenile justice systems is preferred;
  • Familiarity with community-based resources in the Northeast area;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural groups;
  • Experience in home-based services, community outreach and case management activities;
  • Strong organizational, record-keeping, and communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently;
  • Bi-lingual/bi-cultural (Spanish/English) candidates strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and regular access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Business class rider on motor vehicle insurance, if transporting clients (Reimbursable; required within one month of start of job). Please note: IHR will provide mileage reimbursement for work related travel.

The employee frequently is required to sit: stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally products and supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.
