The Patient Accounts Coordinator, Admission Services Center organizes, monitors and takes corrective action with regard to the insurance verification process and/or charge audit within the department.
1. Monitors the registration accuracy performance of Patient Access Associates in regards to data entry on daily basis through the assigned EPIC workqueues. 2. Provides daily staff performance updates/audit results to ASC management and reviews the results with the registrars if requested. 3. Interviews patients to perform telephone registration audits and obtain any missing information if needed. 4. Educates Patient Access Associates regarding any insurance topics/products, issues related to understanding a real time eligibility (RTE) and Admission Services Center s workflows (e.g. ETD). 5. Able to identify and correct any hospital insurance and/or service charge error quickly and accurately. 6. Reviews and reassigns electronically as needed certain provide s documentation deficiencies to allow health information coding to begin. 7. Reviews Epic medical charts and assigns modifiers and supply charges as needed. 8. Assess evaluation and management (E&M) levels assigned and corrects any errors/duplicates. 9. Documents the system in regards to any encountered issues such as required missing information. 10. Reviews billing reports such as E-Premis rejections (billing claim scrubber) and/or monthly denials as requested. 11. Assists ASC Management in maintaining the department s Annual Compliance Plan(s) (e.g. MSPQ monitoring, etc.). 12. Works on special projects such as review of the billing vendors Self-Pay invoices to identify any missed opportunities such as insurances found by the vendor. 13. Effectively communicates with other departments as needed to clarify certain billing issues. 14. Communicates any unresolved issues to the management. 15. Must be able to perform multiple functions, possess above average problem solving skills and excellent interpersonal skills at all times when dealing with patients, visitors, and co-workers. 16. Responsible for timely completion of any assigned workqueue within determined time frames. 17. Ensures that all required patient data elements are accurately entered into Epic system. 18. Provides excellent Customer Service to patients and their families by adhering to AIDET fundamentals. 19. Able to access and navigate various payer websites (e.g. Emdeon, Navinet) to confirm patients insurance coverage /policy benefits. 20. Maintains good communication both inter-departmentally and intra-departmentally (telephone, computer, interpersonal skills) to ensure that patient tests are processed within established thresholds set-forth by the department. 21. Maintains work area in a clean, safe and orderly fashion. 22. Attends HackensackUMC continuing education programs when possible. 23. Responsible for all e-learning requirements.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Associates degree or equivalent related experience. 2. 4 years experience as Patient Access Associate. 3. Good computer skills. 4. Hospital Insurance knowledge required.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1. Medical terminology preferable.
