Patient Services Representative, Medical Specialties

PATIENT SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE, MIT Medical, to be responsible for patient flow and appointment scheduling. This highly visible position has extensive patient contact, both in person and by telephone. Typical duties include staffing the front desk (e.g., check in, collecting copays, obtaining accurate insurance eligibility information, etc.) and performing administrative duties (e.g., phone calls, data entry, insurance reviews, filing, etc.); scheduling patient encounters (appointments) and procedures coordinated within and across providers, service areas, and institutions; collaborating and effectively communicating with referral providers and practices to facilitate management of complex patient issues; providing effective customer service that supports departmental operations; and greeting and directing patients, families, and visitors.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a high school diploma or GED; at least two years experience in a customer service or administrative role, preferably in a busy medical practice setting; ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, work independently or within a team environment, and interact effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies; effective telephone skills and ability to communicate diplomatically with patients, clinicians, and other professional staff; strong customer service, organizational, and follow through skills; and math skills that include the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with accuracy. Associates degree or higher in communications, business, or other relevant field; knowledge of medical terminology; working knowledge of insurance regulations, form completion, deductibles/copays; and insurance verification experience are preferred. Knowledge of pre-admission and pretesting requirements, the ability to be trained in CPT and ICD10 coding, and knowledge of billing systems would be helpful.
