Vacancies are for Per-Diem positions in the Emergency Services and Telecommunications Department. Under supervision, receives and processes all, emergency and non-emergency requests for service. Questions caller to determine the nature and location of the needed service; and based on established operating procedures, determines the appropriate response required and the need for pre-arrival instructions. Broadcasts EMS units to respond to requests for service. Maintains contact with EMS Field Units and maintains records. Operates EMS radio, Computed Aided Dispatch System and other communications equipment. Performs related work as required. This is an at-will position and the hours of work vary depending on the needs of the department and include holidays, weekends and shift work.
PLEASE NOTE: The training hourly rate of pay is $18.00 and the hourly rate of pay upon completion of training is $20.94.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The examination may include a written test, a performance test, an oral test, a typing test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. Ability to type using a computer keyboard; Ability to check information for detail and accuracy; Ability to quickly comprehend verbal information; Ability to exercise sound judgment; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; Ability to communicate effectively verbally.

Graduation from a standard high school or equivalency.
A COPY OF YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, GED CERTIFICATE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE ATTACHED TO YOUR APPLICATION. A DIPLOMA OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.
If appointed, you must successfully complete the State of Connecticut Telecommunicator Program and the City selected, State of CT approved, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Course within twelve (12) months of employment, or at the discretion of the Appointing Authority. NCIC/COLLECT Certification may be required at the discretion of the Appointing Authority. A valid State of CT Driver s License is preferred.
