    Duties Summary

    Education and length of practice will be considered through a formal pay-setting process in determining the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay). Eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program.
    The incumbent will conduct independent research in a field related to the goals of the New England Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) and the VA R&D Program.

    Responsibilities

    The duties include but are not limited to:

    • performs clinical services at the Bedford VA Hospital under the direction of the GRECC site director, including staffing of outpatient clinics and/or inpatient units consistent with their specialty training;
    • engages in clinical innovation by initiating and/or participating in established Clinical Demonstration Projects under the direction of the GRECC site director;
    • prepares and submits of grant applications, IRB documentation, communications, reports, and correspondences necessary to conduct research in the GRECC and in the R&D Program at the Bedford VA Hospital;
    • communicates the results of new studies by writing and publishing original scientific papers and presenting data at scientific meetings; and
    • Supervisory responsibilities include completion of performance evaluations, proficiency reports, qualifications and competence of staff, time and attendance requirements, recommendations for staffing, space, and other resources for GRECC research staff associated with the incumbent s research program and clinical demonstration projects.

    Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2019.
    Basic Requirements:
    • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

    Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs); moderate carrying (15-44 lbs); straight pulling; pushing; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 4 hours); standing (up to 4 hours); kneeling (up to 2 hours); repeated bending (up to 2 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13 to 16 to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable at 20/50 and 20/100; hearing (aid permitted); emotional stability.
