We are seeking a Production Engineer / Production Systems Engineer / Automation Engineer at our Latham NY location.

SUMMARY

  • Maintain and improve existing automation systems. Support the implementation of new automation systems.
  • Facilitate advanced troubleshooting, testing, and development of new hardware to sustain our production processes.
  • Supporting the development of new production methods based on your experience and information from customers and suppliers.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Duties primarily include supporting the existing automation and process equipment, develop better processes and equipment, and finding and supporting the vendors that support the production processes.
  • This includes working with Robotics, Conveyors, Pneumatics, Labeling Systems, Packaging Systems, etc.
  • This will include engineering design, technical product development, and troubleshooting.
  • Reviewing requirements, creating original designs and authoring original solutions, creating and/or modifying systems code and functionality, testing, and debugging.
  • Develop and provide training to the production team.
  • Follow, maintain and improve production processes. Create new ones as necessary.
  • Collect and analyze user requirements, create technical designs, and write technical design documentation of proposed solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency of business processes, and design solutions to affect efficiencies.
  • Investigate and identify root cause of issues and design & implement corrective modifications.
  • Create unit tests covering new and existing code, consistent with automated testing procedures.
  • Design and implement custom PLC processes and HMI application to support automation of production processes.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor (4-year) Degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical, Electrical or Software Engineering. Electrical or Software Engineers must prove to have a very strong aptitude and track record of mechanical capability.
  • 5-15 years of experience in production facility support.
  • Demonstrated experience with motors, conveyors, robotic arms, pneumatic systems.
  • Prior experience working with PLC and HMI, VFD Drives, integrated systems to MRP/ERP/Databases.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • COMPUTER AND TECHNICAL SKILLS

    Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

    Computer Programming skills such as Excel macros or SQL or other demonstrated skill.

    Basic Electrical and Electronic Circuit Diagram and creation required.

    Understanding of Common Types of Motors (AC Induction, DC Servo, etc)

    Preference for experience with the following: Electrical, Programming (Ladder, Function Block, Structured Text), Visual Basic, SQL, C++, C#, Python, HTML, PHP, PLCs (Allen Bradley, Proface, Fuji secondarily), HMI (Allen Bradley), Hydraulic, Pneumatic, VFD Servos (Allen Bradley, Yaskawa, Emerson, and ABB Primarily, Caratron, Automation Direct secondarily) Experience with Yaskawa Motoman a plus.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    High Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    High Skills:

    Ability to work with advanced mathematical concepts and apply them directly to analysis and design of analog and digital communication systems.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Highest Skills:

    Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems as well as with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
