Our services allow our clients to spend more of their time and limited resources on providing the core functions their constituents expect, while avoiding unnecessary tax increases and cuts to essential public services.

Job Summary

The Proposal Writer provides clear, responsive proposals and other marketing documents to support the firm s marketing efforts to state, federal, and local governmental entities with the objective of increasing business and revenue. This position is responsible for reviewing Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), and Request for Proposals (RFPs), and other marketing materials and developing comprehensive responses.

Essential Job Functions

  • Represents the firm with professional and ethical work standards consistent with the mission and management policy of the company
  • Supports multiple proposal efforts and serves as lead or team member for complete proposal(s) and/or sections
  • Conducts in-depth interviews with various subject matter experts (i.e. attorneys, data specialists, graphic designers) to gather substantive material for proposal responses
  • Communicate any problems/issues to the Lead Proposal Writer and Director of the Communications & Marketing Services Department (CMS) as needed
  • Analyzes RFPs and identifies key criteria, developing core outline
  • Organizes material and writes proposal content to meet RFP specifications
  • Responds clearly to all written product requirements/questions
  • Conducts research to further develop proposal responses when required
  • Reviews the work of other writers and graphic designers to ensure technical accuracy and quality
  • Submits updated/new information for proposal boilerplate files
  • Liaise with data team to deliver key client reports/materials in a timely manner
  • Reviews and participates in proposal post-mortem assessments on products submitted to identify strong points and areas of weakness for improvement
  • Communicates changes within department to other appropriate areas as designated by the Director of CMS
  • Provide positive customer service to internal clients (attorneys, marketing personnel, managers, etc.)
  • Handles all internal and external client contact in a professional, ethical manner
  • Provides a positive work atmosphere for the team and the department
  • Supervisory or Management Responsibility/Decision Making Level

  • Reports to Lead Proposal Writer and Director of CMS, but requires little supervision to perform most tasks
  • Works independently and interdependently on various projects
  • Requisite Abilities and/or Skills

  • Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines on multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Experience with Windows and MS Suite
  • Have strong organizations and problem-solving skills
  • Critical attention to detail
  • This position requires continuous learning, with an ongoing review of and knowledge of the firm s systems and requirements
  • Experience in proofreading and use of style manuals (AP) and proofreader s marks
  • Basic publication layout and design skills (Word, Excel)
  • Highly proficient grammatical skills
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Personable and approachable
  • Self-motivated and able to apply logic and reasoning to your work
  • Strong working knowledge of the collection industry, with public-sector experience desirable
  • Minimum Education and/or Experience

  • College degree required (English, Communications, Marketing, Government and/or related field preferred)
  • Two years of experience writing proposals is preferred and same experience with government proposals preferred
  • Experienced in providing a high-level of customer service satisfaction in an environment with multiple personality types and handle difficult situations with diplomacy

  • Occasionally required to stand or walk and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Employees work in an office environment. Employee sits at a desk during regularly scheduled work hours; answers and makes telephone calls using standard telephone; types on a standard keyboard; and reads and comprehends information from a computer terminal and/or written resources.
