Research Associate I – Cell-based Assays

Broad Institute – Cambridge, MA

The Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard, a world leader in genetic research, is looking for an exceptional candidate to join the Therapeutics Group in the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research. Recently the Stanley Center has gained unprecedented insight into the genetic and biological basis of schizophrenia, autism, and bipolar disorder, and the Therapeutics Group translates those findings into novel early stage drug discovery projects.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team in the establishment and prosecution of therapeutics projects for psychiatric disease. She/he will play a critical role in the generation and maintenance of essential cell lines and in the development and performance of multiple assays, from high-throughput screening to primary neuronal secondary assays. The candidate will be involved in day-to-day laboratory work, assist with experimental design, collaborate closely with other scientists on the team, and communicate scientific results to team members, and he/she will be expected to work independently after training and in close collaboration with other members of the team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Generating and propagating recombinant cell lines for drug discovery assays
  • Preparing cells for the performance of assays
  • Assisting in the development and execution of cell-based assays
  • Troubleshooting and solving scientific problems
  • Independently operating and maintaining lab equipment

  • BS or MS in the biological sciences.
  • Significant experience in culturing mammalian cells.
  • Familiarity with assay development and automation instrumentation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to work within a team.
  • High level of initiative and the ability to work independently.

The Broad will not offer Visa sponsorship for this opportunity.
