A Research Technician position is available in the laboratory of a Physician Scientist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the MGH Cancer Center. Under the supervision of physician scientist Dr. David Miyamoto, the candidate will assist in molecular and translational research studies towards the development of novel blood-based and tissue-based biomarkers to help guide the clinical management of cancer patients. These duties include performing laboratory experiments, collection of data and accurate recording of procedures and results, maintenance of databases, ordering necessary reagents to conduct experiments, and participation in joint upkeep of the lab. Training in all procedures and protocols will be provided. The laboratory is located on the Charlestown Navy Yard campus of the Massachusetts General Hospital.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Isolation and analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from patient blood samples using microfluidic technologies.
Molecular analysis of CTCs, tumors, and normal tissue samples using molecular biology and cellular biology techniques including RNA in situ hybridization, qPCR, droplet digital PCR, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and next-generation sequencing.
Perform standard molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid purification, PCR, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, and plasmid construction.
Perform standard tissue culture and cell biology techniques including cell line maintenance, drug treatments, plasmid transfection, Western blotting, cell viability assays, and immunofluorescence microscopy.
Perform basic bioinformatic analyses including differential expression of gene expression profiling data.
Order common laboratory reagents and general laboratory supplies.
Participate in upkeep of the lab and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Organize and accurately maintain written records of experimental procedures and data collection.
