Associate Scientist, MDx

PerkinElmer – Waltham, MA

Perkin Elmer is seeking an Associate Scientist, MDx to join the Waltham R&D team. In this role, you will work as part of the molecular assay development team. This team is primarily responsible for developing PCR-based assays and integrating the assays into automated instrument platforms under applicable IVD regulations for Newborn Screening and adjacent clinical space. This role may also be trained on tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and support MS/MS assay development when needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Product development
    • Investigates the feasibility of applying a variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products.
    • Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity and collaboration with others and independent thoughts
    • Perform assay optimization, integration, troubleshooting, and transfer of technology to operations
    • Analyze, interpret, document and present experiment results
    • Perform verification and validation studies
    • Create and edit project documents within the IVD product development framework
    • Contribute to scientific literature and conferences
  • Laboratory Maintenance and Compliance
    • Maintain compliance with all company policies, quality systems, and procedures
    • Participate with larger R&D team in instrument maintenance
    • Work with Quality Manager to prepare for periodic internal and external quality audits

      Education and Experience:

  • B.S. or M.S. in life sciences or chemistry and at least 0 - 2 years of industry or academic lab experiences in molecular assay development; or M.S. in life sciences or chemistry and at least 1 year of industry or academic lab experiences in molecular assay development

    Other Requirements:

  • Ability to design, plan and execute complex experiments with moderate supervision
  • A great team player, and able to multi-task effectively and be fully committed to product development timelines
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Good communication and technical writing skills
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to work in fast pace environment
  • Knowledge of DFSS and ability to design, execute and analyze DOEs and do appropriate statistical analysis using statistical tools is preferred
  • Some experience working in a regulated environment (IVD, CLIA) is preferred
