Senior Product Test Engineer

S & C Electric Company – Franklin, TN

The Global Quality Assurance (QA) organization provides a variety of services aimed at helping its internal customers, S&C leaders and team members, deliver superior quality to our customers. This position is part of the QA Product Test Engineering group and has primary responsibility for specification, design, build, verification & validation testing, commissioning, deployment and technical support for new and existing production test equipment used in S&Cs Production Operations. In this position you will report to the Manager of Product Test Engineering and be located in S&Cs Franklin location, however, some travel will be required.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collecting and reviewing product test requirements from S&C Advanced Development and Product Engineering groups.
  • Creating specifications for new production test equipment.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and datasheets.
  • Designing, assembling, programming, testing and troubleshooting automated test consoles, electrical and electronic circuits, test fixtures and assemblies with digital, analog and programmable components.
  • Preparing and executing test plans/procedures for completing design verification & validation testing, acceptance testing, and commissioning of production test equipment.
  • Assessing existing production test equipment and suggesting opportunities for improvement, using tools such as DFMEA, DFMA, and performance testing.
  • Utilizing problem-solving skills to find root causes of production test equipment problems and resolve them.
  • Utilizing quality feedback and metrics to implement improvements to the production test equipment, and Product Test Engineerings specification, design, testing, validation, and technical support processes.
  • Safely and effectively operating energized low- and medium-voltage production test equipment.
  • Coaching and mentoring less experienced team members.

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 11 to 15 years of experience designing, developing, building and programming automated test stands for production using National Instruments LabVIEW and Test Stand software.
  • Must be NI Certified TestStand Developer (CTD) and NI Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD).
  • Experience in electrical system testing, electronics testing, embedded controls testing, test setup design and assembly, software testing and problem-solving in a manufacturing production environment is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of lab test and measuring instrumentation including electrical, mechanical, thermal test equipment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team service-oriented environment.
  • Enthusiasm, drive, a sense of urgency, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to travel without restrictions up to 20% of the time.

  • Standing: Frequent time spent on shop floor.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting.
  • Walking: Occasional walking of moderate distances (1 mile) within the S&C complex.
  • Carrying: Occasional carrying of light objects for short distances.
  • Pushing: Occasional pushing.
  • Pulling: Occasional pulling.
  • Bending: Occasional bending.
  • Reaching: Occasional reaching
  • Handling: Must wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment and exercise safe practice in low-voltage and medium-voltage.
  • Environment: Consists of time spent both in an office environment, test facilities, and on the production floor.
