Job Description

Amgen is dedicated to discovering, developing and manufacturing transformative medicines for patients. Amgen is seeking Software Engineer Python, known internally as a Senior Associate Software Engineer, to help Amgens process development team to unlock the potential of computational modeling and simulation. In this role, you will be working with modeling & simulation engineers to develop modeling tools and infrastructure to create virtual designs of products and processes. The key responsibilities will include architecture & design definition, implementation and testing using Agile development approaches and making use of OOP principles (OOP) and design patterns.

Successful candidates will have the requisite technical skills; the ability to absorb new domain-specific concepts quickly; high personal standards of efficiency and quality while delivery in quick intervals; and the ability to contribute in a collaborative environment.

Key Activities for the Software Engineer Python include:
  • Collaborate with Modeling Engineers & Data Scientists to develop, test and maintain mathematical modeling infrastructure and applications based on OOP principles
  • Building modules to parse/pre-/post-process input/output data and visualizations
  • Write unit, integration and regression tests to ensure correctness
  • Implement continuous integration
  • Write clean code, from scratch or by refactoring existing code
  • Apply OOP principles, including software design patterns and SOLID design principles, as well as clean code programming practices
  • Handle codebase, run issues/tickets, maintain documentation
  • Provide DevOps support
Basic Qualifications:

Masters degree


Bachelors degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience


Associate degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience


High school diploma / GED and 6 years of Information Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS or MS in computer science, engineering, applied math/statistics, or computational sciences (or related fields)
  • Proficient in Python
  • Strong programming ability for scientific computing
  • Experience with Python tools for scientific computing (numpy, scipy, pandas, scikit-learn, scikit-image, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience in equation driven programming like differential equations, partial differential equations, and numerical methods is a plus
  • Knowledge of MATLAB is a plus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Experience working with agile development methodologies such as Sprint and Scrum
  • Experience with Software engineering best-practices, including but not limited to version control (Git, TFS, Subversion, etc.), CI/CD (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, etc.), automated unit testing, Dev Ops.
