Staff Accountant

MLF is excited to announce the position of Staff Accountant.

The responsibilities of the Staff Accountant at Community First! Village will assist with the full accounting cycle, financial and analysis reporting, and day to day financial matters of the organization ensuring application of sound accounting principles/practices.

This is a full-time 40 hours per week non-exempt position reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. Due to the nature and requirements of the position, the hours are somewhat flexible to fit the need, but typically include Monday through Friday, 8:30am 5:30pm. Work will be performed at the Community First! Village at 9301 Hog Eye Road, Austin, TX 78724

Mobile Loaves & Fishes has embarked on a new and innovative journey to transform how we care for the chronically homeless in our community. We have recently launched and developed Community First! Village, a 51-acre master planned community that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas. And we are now embarking on a second phase of community expansion, adding more than 300 new neighbors over the next 5 years.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist CFO in preparing monthly financial reports for senior management and Board of Directors
  • Assist CFO in annual budgeting process
  • Annually work with third party auditors and CFO to produce the annual GAAP audit
  • Annually work with third party tax firms and CFO to produce and file Form 990 with the IRS
  • Reconcile and update Fixed Asset Reporting and maintain depreciation schedule
  • Reconcile and prepare Restricted Fund Reporting
  • Reconcile and prepare Net Asset Rollforward audit schedule
  • Maintain manual for Primary Community accounting policies and procedures and provide training to accounting volunteer team
  • Oversee Truck Communities expenses and budget reporting
  • Prepare banking and compliance reporting
  • Prepare donor portfolio reporting and reconciliation
  • Reconcile and record Property Management rental income activities
  • Assist in managing month-end close process and monthly reporting requirements
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts
  • Analyze and make recommendations on expense saving strategies
  • Work collaboratively and as a team member with staff and many other constituents and stakeholders
  • Assist with other general accounting projects and ad-hoc projects as needed
  • Other duties as necessary to fulfill the mission & vision of Mobile Loaves & Fishes

Position Requirements:

  • Requires graduation from an accredited College or University with degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 3 5 years Accounting experience, including experience supervising a team
  • Excellent accounting and analytical skills, thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP requirements
  • Certified Public Accountant is preferred
  • Desire and ability to work within tight timeframes and deadlines
  • Proficient in the use of accounting software systems particularly QuickBooks
  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Effective written and interpersonal communication skills
