Your Opportunity

Stantecs Buildings group in Chicago is a 100-person group that provides Architecture and Interior Design across multiple sectors including Workplace, Hospitality, Mixed-Use, HigherEd, Healthcare, DOD/Civic, and Retail. This office serves as design hub for the buildings practice. Our team is passionate about the design quality of the built environment and create designs that are timeless, intelligent, and sustainable. We are seeking three passionate Summer Architectural/Interior Design Interns to work on exciting Chicago projects with industry leaders. Assignments are meant to develop knowledge and skills within the architectural and/or interior design disciplines and will require good technical understanding of the basics. Work performed will be under the direct supervision of a Senior Designer or Licensed Architect.

The successful candidate will be passionate and possess excellent design, graphics, organizational and communication skills, which will enable them to interact within a team of architectural/interior design professionals. Opportunities for our Intern include educational lunch and learns/seminars, participation in internal office design presentations and dialogues, and project site visits.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare contract drawings, specifications, schedules, details and sketches from conceptual design through to construction.
  • Work with the interior design team to create color and finish palettes, research finish materials and products.
  • Support multi-disciplinary team in developing designs, schematic sketches/diagrams, and documentation drawings.
  • Assist in the preparation of design presentations.
  • Utilize BIM software as a tool for design drawings.
  • Facilitate and ensure the quality of the project deliverables.
  • Follow production guidelines and project standards in the department drafting standards manual.
  • Providing CAD drafting and design assistance for a wide variety of projects, from report stage through design and construction administration.
  • Assisting in resolution of technical issues on construction sites.
  • Effective teaming within the project team.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • A passion for design and our profession.
  • Familiarity in Revit and/or Sketch-Up
  • Familiarity with Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Microsoft Office essential.
  • A keen sense of creativity and initiative, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, ability to take ownership of tasks and to work with minimal supervision.
  • Eager to learn with strong listening and critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Prior experience working with contractor submittals and RFIs is a plus.

Education and Experience

Working toward a professional degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture or related field from an accredited university.

Previous internship experience preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
