SUMMARY

Trane, in Rocky Hill, CT is looking for an Estimator / Bid Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for computing costs associated with equipment projects. Closely interacts with Systems Account Managers, Controls Account Managers, and other staff to ensure the timely completion of each estimate. Also, responsible for assisting Account Managers with entering, monitoring and managing the Trane Customer Relationship Management Tool (CRM) and Trello Bid Calendar.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Estimator) include the following. Other functions may be assigned.

  • Responsible for computing cost estimates for materials, purchased equipment, labor and other construction related activities to assist Account Managers in bidding on or determining price of equipment projects.
  • Utilizes blueprints and specifications, and knowledge of construction industry, to analyze project needs and compile cost estimates.
  • Responsible for the take-off of equipment for proper size, configuration, voltage, options, etc.
  • Selects and prices proper equipment per the plans and specifications.
  • Creates preliminary proposals.
  • Responsible for identifying possible cost savings and/or cost problems that will occur on various projects.
  • Obtains and validates vendor quotes.
  • Obtains factory discounts and enters discounts in Job Center estimating tool.
  • Responsible for holding project pre-bid meetings. Makes any necessary changes to estimates and proposals.
  • Generates and distributes final proposals.
  • Documents work by maintaining files for each project.
  • Supports the sales process and develops preliminary submittals as required.
  • Maintains competitive advantage and stays abreast of industry trends.
  • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Bid Coordinator) include the following. Other functions may be assigned.

  • Provides a key integrated role with Account Managers for the effective use and compliance of the Trane Customer Relationship Management tool (CRM) and Trello Bid Calendar.
  • Interacts with customers and coordinates proposal requests. Enters/links Opportunities in CRM, and enters bid requests in Trello.
  • Forwards proposals to customers.
  • Maintains proposal files, both electronically linking documents to bid requests in Trello, and manual file.
  • Assists in finding, entering, editing and managing critical data in CRM (Site, Owning Company, Customers, Equipment, etc).
  • Assists Account Managers in follow up details after the Opportunities have bid.
  • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate s degree in engineering, engineering technology or business management or one to three years experience in estimating, engineering or construction management; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the operation of HVAC systems and temperature controls is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to communicate (verbal, written) effectively with others.
  • This position works from our Rocky Hill office and is not eligible for working from home due to the high demand for in-person interactionsand collaboration with multiple individuals within the office.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
