Duties & ResponsibilitiesKey administrative support to the Economics Department Undergraduate Program, which is the largest undergraduate concentration at Harvard. Provides day-to-day support and performs a wide variety of functions. Works closely with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Associate Director of Undergraduate Advising, and the team of Concentration Advisors on core administrative operations of the Program to ensure smooth functioning of the Economics Undergraduate Office. Communicates and works with faculty, students, staff, and other constituencies across the University on issues relating to the Program. Manages and maintains integrity of all documentation and student records (hard-copy and electronic) for the Program. Writes and edits materials relating to the Economics concentration (hard-copy and electronic) for public domain and Department website. Serves as course administrator for the Senior Thesis Program and Sophomore Tutorial Program. Coordinates submission, tracking, and grading of senior theses, calculates academic honors standings, and verifies student eligibility for graduation in coordination with the Registrar s Office. Performs administrative hiring and payroll for course instructors and student workers using Aurora and PeopleSoft systems. Processes various reimbursements, invoices, and student awards. Prepares annual reports on Economics course enrollment. Manages vendor relations and orders supplies. Manages all aspects of event coordination including scheduling, working with caterers, set-up, and reimbursements. Oversees social media efforts, such as Concentration Facebook and Twitter accounts. Works collaboratively on other initiatives of the Economics Undergraduate Program and Economics Department and performs other duties as needed.
Basic Qualifications3+ years experience in an academic setting or student-service environment.
Additional QualificationsB.A./B.S. preferred. Must be detailed-oriented, highly organized, and have excellent follow-through. Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Must work well both independently and in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to foster a positive work environment required. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, exercise sound judgment in complex situations and maintain a high-level of professionalism and confidentiality required. Word processing, spreadsheet development and management, and website editing skills essential, along with ability to learn new software. Harvard FAS experience helpful. Some exposure to economics or related fields such as statistics, social studies, mathematics, etc. helpful.
