Web Developer- Professional Services Specialist 1

Job Summary: Working in the Department of Information Technology, the Web Developer provides technical support for the University’s portfolio of websites. The Web Developer position is responsible for the development, enhancement and maintenance of the main University website (using Drupal) as well as the development and maintenance of additional sites (using WordPress, etc.). The work includes, but is not limited to website theme development and enhancements, database management, custom module and plugin development as well as the maintenance, security enhancements, and management of the website hosting environment. This position will work collaboratively with the Marketing Department to develop the University's web strategy. Additionally, this position will work with other staff members in the IT Department with all web-related programming and technology solutions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Builds and maintains the University websites using Drupal, as well as any other required CMS including WordPress, etc.
  • Manages all technical aspects of the Content Management Systems (CMS) that are used for the University websites as well as the hosting platforms, such as Pantheon, Acquia and other related tools, applications and databases
  • Applies all necessary security updates to Drupal CMS
  • Evaluates, recommends and selects Drupal modules as well as other plugins or tools for desired functionality
  • Ensures high-performance and availability of all University websites
  • Works in coordination with the Marketing Department to implement any ADA (usability and accessibility) compliance requirements to ensure all web related initiatives adhere to the state and federal guidelines
  • Supports and assists with the implementation of all website related training initiatives
  • Prepares and implements all web-related technical specifications and documentation
  • Works closely with University constituencies to support web initiatives
  • Research and prepare all requirements and project planning of web related activities
  • Utilize SEO best practices
  • Works collaboratively with all team members
  • Responds to user phone calls, walk-ins, and web-related Help Desk service requests
  • Performs other related duties as required

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
  • A minimum of 4 years work experience related to the responsibilities of this position
  • Ability to design, manage and maintain enterprise level CMS solutions
  • Knowledge and experience in building responsive websites using Drupal 8, 9 or other CMS such as WordPress
  • Knowledge of PHP, HTML/HTML5, CSS/CSS3, and JavaScript/jQuery, Bootstrap, AngularJS, jQuery, AJAX, MySQL, NGINX, Apache, and other related systems or applications
  • Recent experience working with RESTful APIs / Spring Services / Spring MVC
  • Knowledge and experience in working with key Drupal APIs
  • Experience managing and developing Drupal websites on Pantheon or Acquia platforms
  • Experience administering and using Zoom and WebEx video conferencing applications
  • Experience with developing new as well as customizing existing Drupal modules, themes, functions, and code base
  • Ability to set up, configure, manage, and perform all phases of web application development, testing, and deployment
  • Experience with the implementation and use of modern website development workflows and development operations using a variety of tools including GitHub
  • Working experience in Windows and Linux environments
  • Strong orientation to customer service and excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to stay on schedule and produce results in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment
  • Experience administering and using Zoom and WebEx video conferencing applications.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience administering and using Smartsheet
  • Experience working with graphic and video development applications such as Camtasia
  • Competence in developing custom graphics, training videos, and promotional videos
  • Experience working with Adobe tools including workflow
